Default My 2009 997S Alignment!

OK, I have had 3- 997S cars since 2006 and all were WAY OFF with their alignment. Since I ocassional track the car I want the best handling and tire wear possible. I take my car to Bob (ViperBob on Rennlist) at Vortex Motorsports (formerly Dave Whites Racing) in Tampa, FL for my alignments and other things. They specialize in Porsche and are awesome to do business with.

Here are the BEFORE specs on my stock from the Porsche factory alignment which are out of Porsche specs!

FRONT
Left -.4 Camber -.17 Toe
Right -.7 Camber +.10 Toe

REAR
Left - 1.6 Camber +.23 Toe
Right -1.9 Camber +.13 toe

---------

Here is the AFTER specs, which I had max front camber allowed by this car dialed in for ocasional track use. Also the car drives so much better!

FRONT
Left -1.2 Camber +.02 Toe
Right -1.3 Camber +.02 Toe

REAR
Left -1.6 Camber +.14 Toe
Right - 1.6 Camber +.14 Toe

Mike, did you mean -1.6 (not -.16) for the right rear setting?

I was disappointed that without the GT3 control arms I couldn't get more than -1.6 degrees in front.

I wanted to run around -2.2f and -1.8r or so.

Lig you need GT3 control arms to do that. Although if you are serious out on the track 2.2 front and rear would be probablt too much for street only driving.

Do you think it could be the roads you drive on, or your driving that is affecting that? After 2 years of driving my car 32,000 miles I checked mine and they were well within spec.

You guys are able to get -1.2 and -1.6 in the front with stock control arms on the 09 model S?

I was not able to achieve more than -.97 in front on my 2006 S with the stock control arms.

Florida roads especially where I drive are very smooth. My car just turned over 2000 miles and most of that is highway miles. My 2009 is only 2 months old.

My 2006 had around 4k miles on it when it went in for a alignment and my 207 had 35 miles on it and it was way off too. What I have found it the toe on these cars is wacked out of Porsche spec and the caber side to side could be a lot closer although my rear was in spec but front was close to out of spec.

Yes but the lower Eurp spec Sport Suspension PASM is helping that. The most I got out of my regualr ride height 2007 C2S was -1 up front. I got an extra 1/2 of a degree with the lower suspension.

Thanks. Have you heard anything on being able to use new springs with the older 997s. I would like to get my car -10 mm but have not heard great things on the Bilsteins Damptronics for my use.

I was hopeful maybe the new OEM springs would work with my car.

I initially envisioned more track time for the 997 but I'm going to stick with my S2000 for lapping days.

Mike, those specs should be a nice middle ground for street use with occational track work. I've had 2 997's and both came with really crappy alignments. Currently on Techart Springs with H&R sways and run the following setup for street/track.

FRONT
Left -1.5 Camber 0 Toe
Right -1.5 Camber 0 Toe

REAR
Left -1.9 Camber +.12 Toe
Right - 1.9 Camber +.12 Toe

Car feels realy dialed-in....I know what you mean when you say the car feels so much better with a proper alignment.

We'll be getting up to Sebring at about 5 or 6 next Friday night...look forward to catching up with you and seing the 09.

That is a very simular alignment as mine and what seems to work best for dialy driver and track car. Basically you want around .3-.4 more negitive rear camber than the front...arund zero toe front and around +.12 to +.15 rear to help with bit off the corner and tire wear.

You got more negitive front than I did because of your ride height with springs.

I will be arriving at Sebring around the same time...see you then!

Your stock alignment is pretty crazy! Was the car pulling to one side at all?
