Default Across America Day3

Illinois destination reached!
About 300 mi of rain driving on this segment along with a bit of wind.
The new wiper blades were a good decision and have gotten plenty of use!
The seating of the P car is just so good, and after spending hours at a time in the chair, my body has no fatigue.

Gas prices have diminished to the $2 mark as I travel, My last fill-up in LA was $3.20.

Anybody know why Texas only has 90 octane premium ??

A pic of the weirdest gas pump I've encountered.

Trip computer stat pics enclosed.

Leave on Monday on a short 8hr drive to Birmingham & PSDS .

Rain or Shine go take your car on a road trip & see America!!!

Excellent! These are excellent road cars.

What wiper blade did you install? OEM?

Are you in Illinois? not a direct shot for Birmingham - I would guess a side trip.

OEM wiper blades Glad I did, new is better.

Birmingham is pretty much a straight southern trip from where I am.

Panhandle on I-40 Groom, TX East of Amarillo to be precise. No big deal, just gas & go, just wondering....

I took a trip to Canada this summer and the Sunoco up there sells 94 octane as Premium. Of course it was about $7 a gallon in August.....but my car ran great
Have a great time, this must be trip number 4 for you to Birmingham, I'm jealous! Travel safe and have fun.

The trip I took this summer from Boston to ABQ, NM and back was a great trip, and I am glad to see someone else reporting 30+ MPG on their trip. The 05 997 was showing 32 MPG for over 400 miles while driving through the Colorado flatlands (bypass around Denver to the East).

I did 1400 miles in 22 hours going from Boston to Omaha, then took my time the rest of the way. Same thing on the return home, 1400 miles in under 22 hours. Average gas mileage for the entire trip was in excess of 28 mpg. The amazing thing was how good I felt at the end of those long runs!! Seating and driving environment in the 997 are truly wonderful. Mileage decreased in NY state, due to the TollWay, drivers there seem to not understand what a cruise control is used for!!

Have a safe trip.

I really wonder whether there are 3 separate tanks for Plus graded gas ;-)

By the pump count then they would have to have 5 10k+ gallon USTs w/o considering diesel. Wld need to be a BIG station w/ a lot of revenue.

Fun post! Stay safe.

I think typically gas stations have tanks holding only two grades of gasoline: premium (or whatever the top grade is) and regular (the low-end octane number).

Any octanes offered "between" the two are made up of "blendings" done via the pumps, the accuracy of which always seemed dubious to me.

Theoretically, any combo between 85 and the high-end number would be possible.

I dont think that is legal in NJ but maybe for other states it is...... Having that many tanks wld be serious $ so what you say is prob true.

You're giving me bad flashbacks to a consulting gig with a gas retailer. Generally, most stations have two gasoline tanks and the blend is blended at the pump so theoretically any blend is possible. Some older stations will have a mid grade tank that is 'splash blended' by adding regular and premium directly from the delivery truck. Avoid the middle--you don't know what you'll get. (That advice actually holds for a lot from wine lists to politics.)
