Default Shifting from 1st to 2nd with the Tiptronic

For those of you who have the tiptronic I found a way that makes it a lot easier when shifting from 1st to 2nd and turning right or left after being at a complete stop. I discovered this technique by accident one day when at a stop light. Prior to this I always had a tough time shifting (in manual mode), with the paddles when turning the steering wheel and trying to manuever my thumbs. So what I do is shift into first at the stop light and have the gear shifter in manual mode. In this fashion I can shift up when I want and not when the computer decides. As I'm turnig the steering wheel, when the rpm's are at the right level I quickly shift the gear lever into autmatic mode with my right hand. The ecu then shifts for me at this moment, into second. As I'm straightening out the steering wheel I then shift back to manual, increasng my rpm's and proceed to shift to third (in manual mode) with my thumb, now that the steering wheel is straight. By doing this I have better control and acceleration of my car from the stop position and my thumbs can access the paddles very easily. The transition is very smooth. Much nicer than trying to turn the steering wheel and hit the paddles with your thumbs in a contorted position. If you've have already tried this then great. For those who haven't I think it will make the shift from 1st to 2nd much smoother and fun. Take care.

Great technique for tips. A great PDK advantage is to shift using the stick. Tip used to do that and in recent models they removed that feature.

Still have that feature on the 6 speed tip in the Cayenne GTS

Man...sure seems like a lot of work....Why not just get a 6-speed? What took you four moves, I accomplish in one.....pull from 1st to 2nd......voila!

4 moves? I count 1 move for his tip technique to shift 1-2. Your manual requires 1 left foot press, 1 right hand gear lever move and 1 left foot lift. Which one is simpler?

I think it's a lot more convoluted to SAY than it is to DO. That said, though, I enjoy my 6-speed very much.

Hey guys this is just a technique for the tips. I'm not saying it's better than the manual just a better way with this type of transmission. Enjoy your cars that's all that matters.
