Default 2009 997.2 iPod Issues

I just picked up a 2009 997 Cab with the iPod option. I have the new Touch and the iPod car adapter does not charge the iPod. If anyone is ordering the car, please beware of this issue as it is quite annoying to keep charging the iPod. I told the dealer about the issue and they are checking with Porsche.

The new iPod touch and iPhone3G have different power requirements than previous models. I have had the same issue with my iPhone 3G and an older set of speakers.

There is a product coming out that should solve the issue. It is a little pass-through connector that will convert the power appropriately.

I have no affiliation with the company. I do plan on ordering one of these when they are available.

PCNA is aware of this issue!
They should have a fix coming.

I would call 1800Porsche and report this !!

This is a known 'apple screwing with everyone' issue. Apple removed support for the FireWire charge pins form the connector on the latest generation of iPodish devices (iPod touch, iPhone 3g), so while all older i-devices charge very well from the 12 v supplied on the FireWire charge pin, the new devices don't use those pins.. no internal connect.

So the charging for the new gadgets must happen with the 5v USB 2.0 charge pins... and that requires extra electronics in cars to get the natural 12v down to 5v. Adapters exist, but the ideal solution is to get something inline with the cable under the center console cowling and not an adapter sticking out into the limited space of the plug-in tray.

I'd hope Porsche is working the issue. For my, my old, trusty iPod Photo will run and charge just fine, as it is.

I haven't seen much mentioned about the 40GB hard drive that comes with the Navigation option. Does this allow music to be copied from other devices like the iPod?

I've heard the same problem happens on other cars too, so it is not just Porsche.

Try this product, I heard that it solves the problem.

With best regards,

I bought a new ipod classic (the 120gb kind). I'm pretty sure this kind of ipod still charges via firewire. But after a week, even though I drove every day, it had no charge and I had to reset it manually. I haven't had the car long enough to determine what's really going on.

I've had my 2009 C2S for about two weeks, and I have the iPOD interface option. I don't seem to have any issues with my iTouch recharging - It just seems to take longer than it should...

I'm still using a 120gb ipod, not the touch, and it appears the ipod gets power but doesn't charge. If I take the ipod out it's out of battery, but when I start the car it boots up and works with the PCM. I've just received the Scosche, so I'll update when I know if that charges the ipod.

Antinul.. does the iPod charge using your inhouse charger? It could well be the battery is shot and no longer taking a charge very well.

I just received one of these Scosche adapters and they in fact charge very nicely ... but the 3G iPhone will no longer fit in the closed console. Unless someone else has somehow made it fit. Aargghh!
