Question 2006 Carrera 4S - "how much is this car worth?"

Hey folks - Contemplating purchasing a 2006 Carrera 4S.

So this is the old "How much is this car worth?" question. I know, I know - "As much as a buyer is willing to pay"... But I still want your honest opinion.

Plus there's a second question at the bottom about child seats for a 997.

The goods on the car:
2006 C4S manual coupe with 27K miles. Wired for radar detector. (wonder why). ;-)

Options & Extras: Avus 3 pc. wheels w/ paint to match black centers with chrome lips and assembly bolts (8.5 and 11") , plus factory S wheels; full leather, power heated seats, nav, sport chrono, Bose, sport exhaust, TPM, CD changer, self dimming mirrors, mats, crested headrests.

Kelly Bluebook says his price is only a few thousand high.

My other important question is: What rear-facing child seat are people using for infants in a 997, and then what front-facing seat for when the kid is a little bigger? Does anybody strongly recommend AGAINST using a 997 to transport such precious newborn cargo? If so, why?

Oh - and lastly, has anyone used one of these beautiful machines extensively on ice or several inches of snow, with proper rubber of course (such as Nokian Hakkapellitta or equivalent), and if so, how good or bad was it? I am spoiled after years of having a 325ix and living in the great white north, so I am not at all shy about driving in the worst of what winter has to offer if I have the right weapon.

Thx!

-possible newbie

Hello Possible Newbie!
Welcome to the forum.

As for your question about the value, I really have no idea. I will follow this thread closely though because I will be trading mine in for another 997 in the next half year or so.

As for the snow, YES the C4S drives very well in the heavy stuff. I drive my car as a daily driver 365 days a year in Boston. Mind you that the roads in Boston are plowed fairly well during big storms. You absolutely should put snows on the car. There are many posts on this subect. I use an 18" narrower setup with Winter Conti 810S (Tire Rack has great packages for winter).
Many people swear by their RWD 911s in the winter as well (also with snows of course). I personally love the AWD.

These are pics from a storm last year in Boston which stranded cars everywhere but my 4S did fine. Note that it took me nearly 4 hours to drive as many miles.....the roads were littered with abandoned cars and every intersection was gridlocked. I just put the Classical music station on and tried not to think about urinating.

Feel free to PM me with any Qs and let us know what you end up doing!

wa2go,

The market is soft. I just (just as in this past Friday) picked up an optioned out CPO 2006 C2S Cab with 15k miles for $68500 in Bedford NH.

It was about 13k UNDER KBB.

Porsche makes and sells child seats for the front. In the rear seats you'll have to shop around to find something that fits. The front seats have a weight sensor to turn off the airbags if a child is in the seat.

Don't even consider giving any value to his wheel mods etc.

I have yet to find a "rear facing" seat that fits in the back there are numerous ones for the back once your toddler can be front facving I like the Graco one from Target (so does my 2-year old son!!)

Hi Bob - You are exactly right. He had started in mid 70's, then upper 60's, now mid 60's...

This morning I learned of a few cosmetic blemishes on the car, and realized as I thought about it that I would probably never sleep having a black car. Although it's the best looking colour (IMHO), I think it's also the highest maintenance colour. I have always tended toward silver/gray cars for that reason in the past, and will probably look to get a seal gray or silver one instead, perhaps even CPO, because I also realised I am probably willing to pay a little premium for that added peace of mind, esp. considering this will be my first P-car.

I am wondering what are the mechanical or performance difference(s) between a 2006 and a 2008.
Not fussed about cosmetics, just the stuff that matters. ;-) I drove a 2008 at the dealer and was blown away. Wondering whether if I get a 2006, will I find it lacking anything the 2008 had. Maybe somebody in OC has a 2006 they would let me drive around the block?....

I would check for the service record at the local dealer or ask the seller for the records. It's a great car, I love mine but don't drive it in snow. Mid 60's sounds like a great price for a car that probably stickered for over 100k when new.

I don't think there is any real difference between an 06 and an 08. I agree on black, they look great but it's tough to keep them clean.

Mid 60's is about right. Mine was stickered at 105k

Is it CPO'd or just the balance of the factory warranty?
