Default Bose Premium

I'm looking at a used 997, and the dealer lists the stereo as "Digital Sound Package" as an option on the car. I asked him if it was the Bose Premium, and he said it was. Is there any way to verify that - anything to look for on the stereo that says Bose?

It's an out of state car, so I can't listen to it. Any help would be appreciated!

The name Blose, I mean Bose, should be advertised on several of the speakers in the car.

And there's that ventilated front speaker on the windshield side of the upper dash /instrument cluster shade, right?

Since Bose is mostly about branding and getting value from that brand, they surely have that brand name prominently displayed in several places.

Then there's the sub-woofer on the drivers side foot area, right?

As others have suggested, several of the speakers (including the ones in the door panels) say Bose.

Thanks for the responses - very helpful. I'll check the pictures of the doors to see if the Bose logo is on the speakers.

Thanks again!

Ask for a list of the option codes from the sticker that should be under the front hood; that should tell you how the car was equipped from the factory, including Bose. (I think you can decipher the codes somewhere on this site, but at the moment can't point you that way.)

EDIT: Click Option Decoder under the General section of the RL menu

And the option code list may not be under the hood. I think Porsche has been shipping the cars with the option list loose and dependent on dealer or owner to attach - there's a designated space for the sticky in one of the owner's books so if it's not under the hood look in the books.

680 Bose High End Sound Package/ Just below the right window control on the right door is a small silver-colored tab that says "Bose." (The larger one is the airbag label).

FWIW... I strongly disagree.

The Bose unit in my 911 is better than the standard stereo but that aint saying much.

Compare it to the Mark Levinson unit in my Lexus... night and day. And I've heard the Bang Olufsen (sp?) unit is the new Audi S8 and it was stellar.

I'm told Porsche might going to another high end stereo name for future products anyway.

I agree, the Mark Levinson in my wifes GS300 is AWESOME (years ahead of Bose) and Porsche should change its stereo system provider pronto.

Funny you all mention that- while the Bose is pretty good I think the system in my X5 (2008 with premium sound) is much better. That system is made by Lexicon (a division of Harman Kardon I think) and is used in other makes as well (Rolls Royce, for example).

Bose is considered trash (and rightfully so) by many audio enthusiasts (me included); Mark Levinson makes exceptional equipment and is very highly regarded.

No one buys German rides for the electronics. Buddy of mine was looking at an 01 or possibly 02 996 with its standard - wait for it - "cassette player"......

"No highs, no lows....must be BOSE"

The upgraded audio package on the new M3 is waaaaay better than the mediocre Bose package I have in my car.
