It is unlikely that anyone makes a remote starter for a vehicle with a standard transmission. It would require disabling or bypassing the clutch interlock. Most assuredly a liability problem. I have not seen remote starters for any 997's, either as options or aftermarket, even for tiptronic.

I can see the advantage of this in Ohio, when starting your car in minus 10 degrees while you are in the house and the car is in the driveway, but what is the advantage in SF?

100s is common in the S. and E. Bay.
Car parked outside can have seats & steering wheel burning....

100s are common in the SF Bay? How many years have you lived here? How many 100F days in a year? Not many.

Feel free to get yourself another gadget, but please do not put those ideas into PAG's head for another useless gadget.

I believe he refers to the temps inside the car... I'm having the same issue in Louisiana... even on 80 degree days, it's an oven inside.

He is referring to ambient outside temps. The SF Bay has maybe 20 days of 90F+ in a year. I recommend parking the car in a garage or using a sun shield.

That'll come across very well, if I ask LSU to build a garage for me on campus... And sunshields don't cut in Louisiana, trust me.

Here's some Sep. averages for Concord (near Walnut Creek):
Upper 90s to 100s seem pretty common.
Even 80s-90s parked in the sun will get the cars very hot.

A sunshade? Are you serious?
A garage? I'm referring to when I go meet someone, go shopping, go anywhere, where cover isn't an option 75% of the time.

Useless gadget? It's a standard accessory available for Toyotas.
Porshce sells a lot of cars in hot climates (regardless what the temp is in your part of the Bay Area...)

To get the inside of the car to cool down efficiently, you would have to first get the hot air out. So you would have to also drop the windows or at least have the sunroof vent open with the remote start. I wonder how long would you have to idle the car to get it cool enough for your comfort. It would be a waste of gas and idle the engine too much. It would be very hard for the A/C to cool a closed car with black interior in 100+deg heat quickly.

I usually keep the sunroof vent open and the windows cracked about in inch (in relatively safe areas) at times the heat is an issue.

Also the electronics in this are already complicated; are you sure you want to mess with it?

Garage at LSU... now that's funny! When they replaced the gate card readers in 1994-95 at the Baton Rouge campus, I thought they would use the opportunity to switch to RFID based entry cards so we would not have to still roll down the windows to slide the card into the slot... given that the typical rainstorm there has the rain coming nearly sideways and you get somewhat damp lowering and raising that window... Nope.. replaced an insert-card-in-slot system with a swipe-card-through-slot system. Garage... HA, Ha.

I will say the sun shade does work. Granted, the inside is still in the upper 90's but at least the steering wheel isn't 120 and burns my hand!

That said, are there not solutions out there that let you open your sunroof and windows with the remote? Seems like getting that done a minute before you get to the car will have it down to near ambient temps pretty well.

Now you are talking. Yes there are after-market solutions doing just that. Search ads in Panorama or Excellence.
