We "old" 997 guys hacked our PSE long long ago.. Bear in mind for those with X51 Powerkit, the plug is located in a different place than the one pictured. Facing the engine from the rear you will find it to the rear left side of engine, between fender & motor. Happy hunting.

Guys, what do you do if you don't have pse. I have an 07 carrera 4s, love the sound when it starts, but then it kinda dies off. Is there an easy fix to the stock non pse system? I don't want to throw big bucks at it.

They could have just as easily put it far back in the engine compartment where is would be much more difficult to disconnect. Instead of leaving the disconnected cable dangling I strapped it to one of the hoses on the right side with a plastic cable wrap. The only disadvantage is that if I ever want to reconnect the orange connector (unlikely) I would need to cut off that cable wrap.
In the 997.2 it's a "black" plug. However, I think that Porsche changed the mid RPM issue whith the .2. When I have it unplugged, the only difference I notice, is that at startup, it doesn't automatically disengare after a few seconds. I could be wrong though, any comments?

Porsche elected to made the PSE system engage with a switch for a reason. Thus, they do not allow it to 'default' in the on position. These components require frequent exercise in order to continue to operate correctly. If you pull the plug that keeps the 997.1 PSE on all the time, there may come the time when you want to plug it back in and regain the operation from the switch on the console--and it might not work. These things can seize in the last position they were left in for a long time.

And yes - just mod the PSE as above and it'll sound great all the time.
+1 No kidding! I remain amazed that folks continue to buy HD...to each his own, but I'm in the I-don't-get-it camp. Imagining a Carrera that sounded like a HD elicted a loud, "OMG" in horror.

I have to say I don't understand the need for a louder exhaust. Why make it anti-social? The stock exhaust sounds perfect, to me...but then, I've yet to listen to anyone's aftermarket exhaust mod on their Porsche.
