Fellow Rennlister,
I have a layover (I'm a pilot and have 24 hours) in Stuttgart this month. Does anybody have any info on how to set up a tour of the factory? If anyone's done it......is it a worthwhile experience? I figured I'd get the expertise from the forum before calling the hotel in Stuttgart.
Thanks!

It's not that easy. I was in Germany last month for 10 days and a month prior to departure I inquired about the factory tour. I sent an email to factorytours@porsche.de in order to schedule the tour, but they replied that one month prior is not enough time to accomodate me. I suggest to talk to your sales rep at the dealear you bought your car and have him make the necessary arrangements.

Thanks for the email link Doc......I just emailed them and will look forward to their response. It's short notice ( I'll be there on the 27th) and asked them if the tour is filled, if I can get on a standby list. I'll keep the group posted.

I went a couple of years ago and it was absolutely worthwhile. Talked my wife into going and she actually enjoyed it. That was a pleasant surprise.
It may help to call for an appointment. Here is the number from Porsche Museum brochure that I kept:

Good luck and enjoy your visit.

The tours are extremely worthwhile. You will tour the body assembly (already painted shells) as well as the engine assembly area. When customers are picking up cars they automatically are offered that tour. (The Grand Tour offers a bit more extensive factory tour into some of the more behind-the-scenes spots like the upholstery area,--that's only offered twice a year to those picking up cars and arranged way in advanced).
For now, don't bother with the "museum" tour as it's way behind schedule. I doubt that it will be finished by the end of this calendar year. Even their insiders aren't sure when it will be done. You can see a lot of the construction however at the Porsche Straße circle.
Tours are usually filled with about 20 people,--anymore and they can't be heard from the back of the pack.

You'll need a 48 hour layover (767ER pilot as well). The tours used to start at 10:00 am and they wanted you at the museum at 9:20am. I set my reservation up through PCNA via telephone. The tour itself is better than sex!

Since you're already there...you can still visit the old museum, the huge dealership across the street and also, go check out the area where the factory wholesales the employee cars (you'll see lots of recent cars with some crazy options and color schemes).
