It was a 996. This isn't a Porsche issue. It's a teenager who made a really poor judgement call of racing with a honda or acura.

It's just very tragic.

Was it a 996 or 997? The article said it was a brand new car.

No interest at all. Just a concerned 997 owner worried about the safety and design of our rear-engined cars. What if the engine was in the front? Could it have helped in anyway, since it can act as additional crumple zone? What if she had a 4 wheel drive, then would she still have lost control? Etc, etc, etc.

My other car is a 91 Mercedes 300E which many people say are built like a tank, and that the newer MB's are not as well built. I wondered if that was the case with the newer Porsches.

Check out the pics of a car that was hit from the rear by a semi at 60 mph.

100% a 996. - keep in mind most 'non- porsche- people have no clue at what they're looking at. Besides saying it was a brand new car heightens the story a bit. Typical turd reporter.

1st of all; the 997? Probably one of the safest cars in the world. They aren't designed to just drive on our nice little roads. Why you're seriously worrying is beyond me.

2nd of all; MOST German cars; I.e BMW, Audi, MB, and just as importantly -Porsche- are extremely safe cars.

I'll take a ten year old MB or New one versus any Lexus or Infiniti.

Dude you can drive a Hummer or a Kia Rio into that pillar at 100 mph and it won't matter as you're going to be just as dead. May she RIP.

Default Maybe people should get a YUGO instead....

Over 35 thousand people die in the US in car accidents...half because of alcohol. Think about it!
So, why is this such a big deal? Not trying to be insensitive....but why this story? Maybe we should ban the auto...... Or how about, stupid drunk teenagers and driving don't go together is more appropriate than "is a 911 safe car"! If she only had her seatbelt on, not drunk...hmmm I thought drinking was against the law if you were less than 21, been more respecful of her parents....she would still be alive. I am really sorry if I sound like a pr*ck...but I feel alot more sorry for the innocent people who were at the wrong place and wrong time who is killed by a drunk driver.

I think we need to put a halt to this thread for the sake of the young girl and her family.

God speed to all; our cars are as safe as the driver behing the wheel.

Livin' in the past, man...I'll take the latest technology, engineering, and dozen airbags in my Infiniti over any 10-year-older Mercedes any day of the week. The charts show that anything by Lexus or Infiniti is as safe as the Benzes...

Maybe infiniti can invent a new technological feature that will hide their lack of ability to design a sexy car.....

I've totaled 2 Porsche 911's over the years.....one flipped 6 times and I didn't get a scratch....the report of my demise is greatly exaggerated......

Many people say many things, but many people also don't realize that bigger cars are not necessarily safer for the occupants. It's impact absorption and other safety features that count, not size per se. Heck, if you accelerate a tank to 100+ mph and send it into a massive concrete structure, you'd be as dead as in a Kia Rio.

Poor skills and poor decision-making... either one alone can get you killed. Apply them in combination and add a 300+ hp vehicle to the mix... what do you expect?

I have a beautiful 19-year old student who was put into into a wheelchair for good by a drunk driver two years ago, and I have a young student who lost her fiance less than six months ago when another guy ran a stop sign speeding. Yes, it's sad this girl killed herself, but at least she didn't take anybody else out.

It's still sad - I actually drove past this booth and there is still a cross next to it with some plastic flowers.

That being said - for the impact that 911 did pretty well - looks like a convertible (yes the pictures can still be found) - just glad she didn't take any one with her.

I feel safer in my 911 then in my F250...

Why are people of the mind the 911 is one of the safest cars in the world? Who says so? Because they are a low production car they are not crash tested. If someone on this board has this data I'd like to see it.
