Dealerships are NUTS
#16
Complete insanity. If you want a Mini (I like 'em - they're neat), go to or call other dealerships and see what you can do dealwise. Then take that deal to the stealership that's posting this ridiculous price and tell them to match it or shove it. And, depending on outcome, absololutely post the name of this dealer on the board so others can diligently avoid it!

The dealer isn't nuts, they're just pricing the car smart. The nutters are the people who pay that much over sticker. If you;res stupid enough to do that you can't complain! You do have a choice: walk away and buy a better car for the same amount of money - like the Golf GTi, or wait until the dealer has a few spare cars on the lot then go and screw his nuts until he squeals in pain.

The house of ill repute is:
Universal Mini
Market adj. was for the Clubman.
The thing that floored me was $295 for Nitrogen filled tires. The associated "Sales Pitch"...pretty much hard sell...
ENHANCES HANDLING
REDUCES HEAT INSIDE TIRE
EXTENDS TIRE LIFE
REDUCES WHEEL AND VALVE CORE CORROSION
REDUCES RUBBER DETERIORATION BY OXIDATION
REDUCES CATASTROPHIC BLOW OUTS

Geography and relationship is key. Mini is a hot vehicle, and now with $4.50/gal gas, it's even hotter. Demand is high. Mini holds value well.
I just ordered one to replace the Ford Escape parts hauler. Luckily I have a great relationship with the dealer family, and was able to score a terrific deal. Though I know others are paying list or above list elsewhere, mainly major metros, NY, CA, etc.
Just shop around, there are a few deals to be had.

I have a neighbor who bought a used Mini from an auction for a little over $11K. He told me that he went shopping for a 3 series BMW for his wife and after negotiating a substantial discount on the 3 series, the Dealer offered my neighbor $15K for his Mini. So yes, at least in my area, the Mini is a hot vehicle.

Chris, after all the problems I had with it, including having the transmission out twice in the first 2 months of ownership, I opted to trade it back to Audi (with <3K miles) for this new TTR s-line. Audi of America made a substantial "contribution" to the deal for my trouble, which made the deal well worth doing. It was handled very professionally. I'm loving the new TT, and honestly, not missing the S4 much - especially on gorgeous days when I can go topless. Plus, even with the 3.2, it seems like a Prius (mileage wise) as compared to the S4.

At first I was aggravated that all the new S-line Audis had the RS4-style wheels, but I'm over it now. It's hard to deny a good design. I just picked up a set of the Titanium package wheels for my summer tires. I'll post some pics when it's clean!
Speaking of dealerships being nuts, has anyone checked out the markups on the GT500KR????? I saw one was $70K over sticker!

Just bought my wife a Clubman. Didn't even go to a dealership, with a little luck an two months of searching a MINI board, found a guy, a hard luck story and Voila 5k savings on a two month old MINI.
Quite a fun little car to drive and the combined mpg has been 38mpg.
Must of been a CA dealership with that mark up. CA MINI dealers are notorious for marking it up!!
