Default Inconsistant Oil Readings?

Had my 08 out today.Checked the oil 3 times.First time seemed like I was a 1/3 low, so checked again on very level surface. This time came up about 3 lines low.Thought this was unusual but not impossible have 1300 on car and only added 1/4 quart at 300 miles)So checked it again and read just about full several times as I thought I left it last time I drove a few days ago.
Anyone else get varied readings on the dash read out.??
Give me a dip stick!

If you do a simple search on the 997 forum you will find substantial discussion already on this exact subject.

Oil mileage varies considerably, from no usage at all to a quart every 500 miles.

Pick a level spot and just keep watching it. Don't add oil until you have seen that it is truly low. I used to add oil only when the bottom block was flashing. (Then it takes one quart).

I got 3 different readings just today. Maybe that's because I cranked the car on 3 different occasions, but I do just what Dan mentioned. I just keep watching the oil levels until I get a consistent reading over several days. Only then do I confirm the location of the extra quart of oil in the garage.

I usually take the reference reading in the mornings, when the car is inside the garage and before I start the engine.

It's the norm to get varied readings throughout the day on the same day, if you're out driving your car. It would be unusual to get varied readings from day to day taken at the same time, say in the morning before heading out for the day.

Hi,
Yes I have different readings all the time. I usally wait till it's low and add 1/2
quart. I had it blink once and I added 1/2 quart and it showed 3/4 on
the reading gage. I park the car on a hill so I expect some weird
results.
