Default help w/ carfax - warranty start date

I am looking at a car and I want to know when the warranty start date.

On the carfax, I see November 2004 as a - REGISTRATION EVENT/ RENEWAL (LEASED VEHICLE)

In June 2005 I see Motor Vehicle Dept - TITLE (Title #xxx) with 241 Miles

In December of 2005, I see REGISTRATION EVENT/ RENEWAL...

sooo... does this look like it was leased in Nov of 2004 and the reg paid again in dec 2005, right? Im just confused as why title was reported in June 2005...

Also.... Car was back in dealer inventory July 2006 @ 7500 miles. Problem is the carfax says (COLOR REPORTED AS GREEN) when in fact, it is Arctic Silver. Any cause for concern here???

Car was then Reregistered in 2/2007 @ 9000 miles... am I missing something? or did it take a new owner that long to get it titled....

Now the car is CPO @ around 15K miles... what do you think? too long of a history? too many owners for a 2005 car? or should I not worry since I THINK its covered until November 2010..... or another 2.5 years....

I too have uncovered 'confusion' on cars I've researched & bought using CarFax. You just need to sort out the data to ensure it's validity and that it gives you a warm fuzzy. You can have the dealer or seller petition the state in which registration was done to clean up the confusion and/or notify CarFax and ask them to restate their findings.

It would appear that the 50K/4Yr 'Warranty Clock' started on the initial lease on 11/2004. As you said if it has a CPO then your good for another 2 years.

ps. You might want to try AutoCheck as well to see what their database tells you.

I am not sure they will do that unless you can prove to them you own the car.

all you need is vin#, they will give the warranty start date(in service date), org. selling dealer, and option list.
the in service date is tricky on demo cars, the demo cars in-service date starts at when they were put into demo usage, *not* first time titled by the buyer.

Even with non demo cars, the in service date can be tricky. Some dealers will "punch" a car to show a sale so that they can get an allocation, or just to show they are moving cars. In that case, the warranty starts the date the car is "punched." I was looking at a 2006 997S about a year ago and found out that the warranty started about three months before the car was actually sold. I was looking at the car at the dealer that originally sold the car, and they admitted doing this. When I questioned them about the ethics involved, they started back peddling and told me that they fully disclosed this to the original buyer. I personally don't think much of the practice.
