Default PSE Questions

I'm thinking about having my dealer install the PSE with wiring on my 997S this weekend. My questions is when PSE is in the OFF mode is it the exact same, a bit louder or moderately louder than stock?

I would prefer the exact same as stock so that I have the best of both worlds.

Since I have never had stock I can't tell you. But I can tell you when I am stalking people, OFF is good. When out for a good time ON is really good. The delta the car exhibits is more easily appreciated with a cabriolet.

i installed it and had the stock, then upgraded. it's quiet when it's off, a blast when it's on. the capability to do that is why i went with the PSE instead of another aftermarket exhaust.

I never have stock exhaust either. But when the PSE is in "off", it is very quiet. I feel it is a little bit quieter than all non PSE 996 and 997 I encounter on the road. If I have to guess, I will say PSE "off" mode is quieter than stock.

It's so close to stock when PSE is off that it's tough to say.

i have it always on... >:-)
Cant live without it unless I am on a roadtrip... then its too loud at high speeds...
Look for the always on mod, its just a plug in the engine compartment...

$2200 - $2500 depending on where you buy it, and who does the work.

After I unplugged mine I asked the neighbors if they heard me leave in the morning. They all said no so I'm not plugging it back in.

Both the stock and the PSE mufflers have three chambers in them .

The difference is that the PSE mufflers have a second exhaust pipe from each muffler , with a shut off valve in them .

When the valves are open , the exhaust gases exit already from the first chamber , bypassing the other two ( less backpressure and much louder )

When the bypass valves are closed, the exhaust must go thru all three chambers, just like in the stock mufflers and therefore will sound exactly the same as stock .

Thanks everyone especially Rolf on the technical response. I ordered it based on your positive feedback and McKenna Porsche is going to install it this Sat for $493.

This system (pse) is ordered from Porsche? I like the ability to change the "loudness" to suit the occasion. I recently put a set of Borla cat-backs on my Mustang Cobra. The drone at highway speed is too much, not to mention the decrease in power (mid-range torque). I am going back to stock this week.

I have owned a 2006 997S for about two months. I LOVE it. Why I haven't bought Porsche before is a shame.

Had stock and replaced it with PSE at 11K miles. Seems the same or quieter off. I leave on most of the time and only put off to let flaps move and for the neighbors. I thought my stock system had gotten louder after 11K miles, PSE in off mode may also get a little louder with more miles. It's very quiet off, or seems so!
