I was/am drawn to the engineering. High performance, but not high strung. Wrong, but done right. Competent, but not boring. Stylish, but not faddish. Comfortable, but not soft. There is not much left in the world which has had such talent so carefully with singular philosophy over decades incrementally push, test, and improve an engineering design. Maybe in the high end watch world.

The common denominator in all of the Porsches I've had is simply...driving involvement. My senses are always heightened behind the wheel of a 911.

That was the reason I gave myself last year to buy a Porsche. I didn't want to find myself one day on my death bed wishing I had treated myself to a Porsche, especially since I've always been a car guy. I haven't regretted my decision at all.

Me, personally, I'm a car guy, can tell marques in the dark by the shape of their headlights or taillights. Don't care about status, just handling, performance, and quality.

Porsche means excellence to me. I strive for excellence, and want my "fun" car to remind me of that goal.

Why the 911.. I've owned Front engine, RWD and a Boxster previously, but the Porsche I first got a ride in (adn actually got to drive later) was a 993 Turbo. 993s still get me all hot and bothered, but it was a 996 and now 997 for me. The Rear Engine danger is also a bit of a draw I won't deny. I have always read that if you could master the 911, you could master anything. The wild stallion type of thing.. That's kind of as macho as I get ;-)

And there isn't anything better than driving through a tunnel or overpass with the windows down and the PSE on loud. Makes you feel like Steve McQueen ;-)

Looks cool! The 997 looks great from every angle. I love to look at it. I look at my car the way people who appreciate art look at a Picasso.

Loved the look of the car first of all, perfect from all angles. Second first car I ever owned with more than 300 HP. Man I love driving my car.

Because it's a quality performance car you can use all the time - cost of ownership (try tracking an F car 6 times a year and see the bills roll in!!).

The 997 - or largely any Porsche sportscar for that matter - has hard parts (brakes, suspension, wheel bearings, steering) that are superior to any mass-produced, readily-available car in the U.S. Thus, the Porsche was an ideal step up from the M3.

My wife saw her first Boxster in about 2000 in Central Califorina and drooled .. good enough for me.

She misses the 986. I don't ..too small ..and drop-tops and humidity don't mix.

refugee from the 986 forum here.....

I was the kid in the commercial too.

After years of obsessing, I finally drove a 911. I was honestly scared that I would not be 100% enthralled, a therefore years of pent up desire would have been in vain....

But I totally was knocked out.

After that I bought one. I can never see myself looking back.

Life is simply too short to not just go out and buy one!
