Default Problem after 996 GT3 seat install

Have installed the 996 GT3 bucket seats in my 997 S. The dealer disengaged the seat airbags with PIWIS to avvoid airbag light. Now after a two days my sport button doesn't work anymore.

The dealer thinks the solution is to install the 997 GT3 Clubsport airbag module, because this one is possible to choose which airbags to engage. Opposite to the stock type in a 997S which is locked and not programable.

I have seen a lot of others doing this mod without hearing about any problems. People who has installed says that they can disengage the seat airbags. My problem is not mentioned in any DIY installs either.

Does sombody have a solution, which the dealer don't know?

From what I'm told, the process behind PIWIS airbag disengaging is that the car is told not to look for seat airbags at all when it goes through its start-up checklist sequence. The other airbags in the car (front, curtain, etc) should remain visible to the computer and operable. I can't imagine how the airbag sequence is related to the Sport button.

If you like, I can refer you to an excellent independent Porsche mechanic who set up my GT3 seats not to conflict with the car's airbags.

That makes no sense, since the module in the seats has nothing to do with the sport button. I think your problem has nothing to do with the seats.

I agree with all the other comments. I've got GT3 seats, with no problems with the sport button. I had the Thorax airbags, AWS, and seatbelt warning disabled. Find another dealer.

(I know this is an old post ) +1. I installed 996 GT3 Seats on my 997s without any light. Im thinking that the OEM harness that comes with the OEM GT3 seats prevents the light. Here's my DIY (though on my old 996, eveyrthing was almost the same http://gallery.rennlist.com/gallery/album651

Very nice. Thanks Mike. I wonder how op made out. I am always disappointed when folks do not report back with their findings and results. Valuable information lost to their fellow board members and others

The only thing you need to do when swapping seats, to make sure the AB light doesn't come on, is to keep the key out of the ignition until the swap is complete. As long as the electrical system is not energized by having the key in, it can't tell what you did while everything is turned off, as long as everything is reconnected properly before starting up again. If you are really ****, and concerned about the no-key advice, simply disconnect the battery first.

The first time I changed out the GT3 seats in my 996, I left the key in by mistake. The second time, with the key out, no problems. On my 997 I removed the factory sport buckets to install my harness sub-strap mounting. Key out, no issues. That whole business with the PIWIS in the OP is unnecessary.
