A guy stopped to talk to me today in SolCal about a new wheel that they are working on. They obtained the trademark name Fuchs (should be familiar to the older 911 crowd) and will be producing the familiar windmill shaped alloys for the modern cars. Apparently, many older 911 guys are having trouble finding decent rubber for their cars in 15 and 16 inch sizes. My friend Mike Lindsey in OKC will manufacture 17 inch Fuchs from smaller diameter Fuchs centers welded onto something like a BBS rim. But this guy I met today is manufacturing them within the year, I suspect. Some of the advance art work/photos I saw look terrific on the 997s. I sorely miss the look of the Fuchs forged alloys and look forward to these that will be coming out, particularly in that they will be a bit updated to match the current lineup (997) yet still retain the classic Fuchs windmill look. As a forged rim, they will be stronger than the pressure cast wheels most of us have (aside from the Turbo rim which is forged) and therefore lighter than the pressure cast. (Pressure castings require thicker walls to get you the strength that is inherent in a forging with thinner walls). Back in their day, the Fuchs alloy was the most popular rim around because it is seriously strong and light at the same time.

Key phrase is "back in the day". While I like the old Fuch wheels, I really don't think they would look very nice on the newer cars.

Wait until you seen them upsized to something like 19 inches. Apparently, it was very hard to copy them as the originals were drop forged and forging dies used were hand made,--each hand of the 5-blade windmill was unique. They will be making them up to 20" but I think that's a bit too bling for my tastes. They will do them like the the 70s and 80s with either silver or black centers,--and some even more exotic if required. The challenge was to get the deep dish look while dealing with today's offsets.

Dan, great news! I can't wait to see them. Fuchs have always been such a good match for the 911 shape. In general, I love 5-spoke wheels on the 911, which is why I like the LF's better than the XRR, in spite of the latter being a better wheel.

Now if only they'll make a 305 rear...

guys, Blownsix Design have already started making these 3 piece forged rims; their new line "B6 Forged" is seen in the recent Panorama Magazine; also available in 20".

The new "Fuchs" will not be a 3 piece forged. they will be lighter,--single piece. (All those fasteners add up).

BTW, if each tear drop in the original Fuchseseses was different from hand-crafting, wouldn't that cause the wheels to be off-balance?

This is a pic of the Blownsix Retro 18" forged 3 piece wheel finished with black center; I personally like the 3 piece look.

I love anything that comes from the older P cars that will work on a newer model..... I am still hoping for an older looking 993T like wing for the 997! Not holding my breath.... these wheels in 19's 1 piece colored center and polished lip would be amazing on the right 997!
