Default Steering wheel replacement

I picked up a used sport steering wheel today for my 997S. I know I saw a link recently showing what is involved in removing/installing steering wheels. Tried to search but struck out. Would appreciate any help in finding that info.

Ken, I would recommend that you pay to get a technician to do this. I had one swapped and was charged $50 to do it, a lot better then having an airbag blow up in your face.

Any interest in selling your old wheel-if so what is it and does it have the multi-function buttons?

You're right. Will probably do that, even if probability for blow-up is miniscule.

Think of the pride that will be lost when you tell your friends what you were doing. I like to tinker, but this one was easy for me, besides $50 is a lot less then a new airbag.

I currently have the standard MF wheel. Was thinking of keeping it in case a future buyer would prefer it to the sport wheel (since the car is wired for MF). When I bought the car I thought I wanted it, but changed my mind. I might consider selling it if the price is right. Let me know if you're interested.

I asked that and was assured by another Rennlister that it is no problem.

I just replaced a MF wheel with the Sport wheel - no problem with the wires - I was also concerned about the airbags so had the local dealer do the install - 0.6 hours

Thanks. Do you know if they needed to use PIWIS to cancel any airbag indicator light issues? Local non-dealer shop in my area suggested this might be necessary, so suggested having dealer install wheel.

If you follow the instructions that Rick linked you shouldn't get a light. No light came on during my install so there was no need for any reset.

I replaced my wheel in roughly 15 minutes and I am no expert. Just make sure you have the key out of the ignition when the airbag harness is unplugged and use a magic marker to mark the teeth on the hub attachment. Here's another link (see post 5)

Thanks. One thing I noticed in reading your link is that since I'm replacing my triangular wheel/airbag with a circular wheel/airbag, therefore changing air bags, it may need a PIWIS reset.
