Ken, I don't think the difference in airbag shape has any effect on the connector. As long as you don't have the key in the ignition throughout the swap process, the airbag fault shouldn't be triggered. I replaced the 4-spoke steering wheel in my previous 996 with a Turbo 3-spoke steering wheel, and everything was fine. I'd think the 997 would work the same.

I presume you didn't re-use the same airbag when you made the change. I was afraid the system might be able to detect a change in airbag. If not, then no problem. Thanks.

I went from triangular to round airbag and no programming was needed - plug n play.

That's correct -- from a squarish one to a triangular one. You should be fine.

As long as you don't turn the car on during the change over, the car will not come up with a warning light.

Did you disconnect the battery each time?

Update: I made the switch myself today, and like others who have done it said, it was simple and easy. I did disconnect the battery just to be safe, which results in the PSM wanting to be re-set, which takes about 30 seconds by following instructions in the manual. Thanks for everyone's help in what turned out to be a simple straight-forward job. Next are the seats, then I'm done.
