Default Thoughts on the sport shifter?

Still haven't had a chance to drive a pcar with this option. Anyone have it and have regrets?

Also, where do I find it in the configurator? What option code is it?

A friend of mine had it installed on his 2004 C4S and has not been impressed with it. I've seen others on this forum comment on it, so suggest you do a search. Generally, most seem to be against it for regular driving, as the shifts are a little stiffer.

As Ken suggested, you'll find volumes of info on the SSK if you use the search function.

It should be standard on a car like the 997.

I'm very much a "traditionalist". Having said that, I was wrong to be so when it came to having a short shifter. They belong on these cars.

I guess I should search the archives. While I have your attention though why do the pro SSK people here like it?

efficiency man!! the next gear? It's RIGHT THERE!! makes me smile just thinkin' about it.

It "fits" the rest of the car. Tight, fast, no wasted motion, extremely preciese, etc.

Try and drive one. See what you think.

(slow crusin'? no need to even move the 'ol elbow lol)

One thing I have noticed though.....on spirited down-shifts, it can be easy to down-shift into a higher gear than you wanted....the shifts being so close together. I don't know how much of that is the shifter, and how much of it is my own "non-proficency".

I hear the allure of the SSK is defintely temperature dependent--if driven during the winter, it can be very notchy (i.e. difficult to shift in the lower gears).

Admittedly, I don't have personal experience.

21,000 plus on my 06 with it so equipped. I think it works great,--much more precise than any of my past Porsches. A little difficult on cold mornings but it quickly warms up.

I got mine from the factory and have 17,000 on it. Did not know how good it is until I test drove a base Cayman with 5 speed.

Dan, you need to quantify what a "cold morning" is in Santa Barbara. Our high today in MI is 43 oF ....and that's a heat wave. Tomorrow's high is 19 oF.

I want to get an idea of the real issues surrounding the SSK and cold temps. Just lookin' for a basis.

I've noticed this too. But, not once has it ever been so "invasive" as for me to "wish I didn't have this!". Just a small, short-lived, idiosyncracy, imho.

My '06 came equipped with it, and I've grown to like it in no time at all. My previous 996 didn't have it, so it's certainly a nice-to-have option for me. Cold mornings make the first gear very stiff and notchy, though. I agree a car like the 997 should have it as standard.

My 06 cab S cme with the sport shifter, and I like it. The cold weather really makes 1st gear a struggle until she warms up. Other than that, it's sweet. Precise and tight shifts.
