I gave them my credit card and they said they'd charge $2k (or something like that). They never actually charged it. The sales guy said "don't worry we did our due diligence" or something like that, I guess from when I did the test drive.

I been told that same dealers actually run your credit report during the test drive (that's why they ask for your driver's license and make a copy) so they know who they are dealing with.

None in my most recent purchase. I offered but they declined, telling me not to worry about it. (I worried about it.)

I think 1K should do it unless you're fancying a pink one...

how can credit be run from a drivers license? You need a ss# at minimum.

In any event i will offer them up to 1500 down. Anything more than 2k is exorbitant.

They're probably more interested in what you offer them as a purchase price than what you offer as a placeholder. Good Luck!!!

Are you talking about a factory order or one in inventory?

It is a fact that they run your credit rating with your drivers license. Another thing you may or may not know is that if you do this many times over a month or 2 it can actually have a negative effect on your credit rating.

I thought that credit info was accessed / saved under SSN not DL.

I thought the same thing. But I checked with dealers and Equifax, and that is how it's done.

It is not a fact, and I do test drives constantly over the past 18 months and I monitor my credit report. Not one credit hit. I think your facts are wrong

You cannot run credit without explicit signature from the person and a social security # ,the license has neither.

Unless there is a category of credit check that does not show up on your report and somehow magically derives your ss# from your license, something that is simply not possible nor legal through regular commercial enterprise.
