Default DME Scan - Need Help Interpreting 1s in Ranges 4 - 6

A newbie question: I am considering the purchase of a 2006 C2S with about 11K miles. I am concerned about the range printout, specifically the "1" in ranges 4 through 6:

Range 1: 434
Range 2: 17
Range 3: 1
Range 4: 1
Range 5: 1
Range 6: 1

Is the number 1 the default number for all ranges (as opposed to 0)? If not, do you guys think I should continue looking, or do you believe that a count of 1 is not something to be concerned about?

Many thanks.

That DME print out is fine..no worries. Don't know about the "1"s but that is not the amount of times it has done it, it is ignition cycles.

Thanks for the prompt reply Dave. Given that the count in the DME report represents ignition cycles, isn't a "1" in range 6 still a cause for concern?

Excuse my ignorance, but what is Misfire detection adaptation?

The report reads:
Range 0: 14
Range 1: 31
Range 2: 31

Thanks again.

One more question on the DME report - does anyone know what "Operating hours counter reading at overspeed" represents? The report reads as follows:

Range 1: 503.4h
Range 2: 503.4h
Range 3: 417.7h
Range 4: 417.7h
Range 5: 417.7h
Range 6: 417.7h

Thanks.

This is a guess but its probably when they happened in hours from zero.
Is there something that says anything about total operating hours?

Total hours the car has been operated: 511.6. Good guess - I am sure that these metrics indicate the time of occurrence of the overspeeds. Thanks.

Unfortunately I can't tell you anything above what a range 2 means...but I assume the higher the range the higher the rpm (as this is what distinguishes a range 1 from a range 2). The hours is the number of hours from new...so there is a readout that gives the total number of hours...this way you can figure out when the over revs happened. If it was a long time ago, then you probably are OK...if it just happened...well not sure what to make of it.

It looks like its the last time of occurrence of the overspeeds. So multiple overspeeds in the same range don't show up in the operating hours counter, but instead only show up in the range printout.

If those are truly range 3-6 ignitions, then it would seem that someone did something very naughty like dropping down into 2nd gear when going 100+ mph:
Range 1: 7300-7500 RPM
Range 2: 7500-7700 RPM
Range 3: 7700-7900 RPM
Range 4: 7900-8400 RPM
Range 5: 8400-9500 RPM
Range 6: 9500-11000 RPM

I just scanned my own DME and I have only Range 1 ignitions. This is what you should get if you drive the car hard but 'properly.'

With all that said, what do you guys think - yey or ney? The car is CPO-ed and the seller would not take less than 71.5K for this 2006 C2S (11K miles), black. Original MSRP was 91K.

I would say No unless someone at the dealer can give you an explanation of those unusual overrevs.

nedino,

when i purchaed my 07 c2s with 3 k miles none of the ignition cycles were above range 2. it cleared shows 0 from 3 through 6. of all the ignition cycles, less than 10% were in range 2, the remainder in 1. p.m. if you want the exact specs, i have the report at home. caveat emptor!

Is this a dealer car or a private party CPO car?
