The '02 M3 I had was best GT car I've ever owned. The '06 997C2S I have now is the best sports car I've ever owned. That pretty much sums it up.

A bit OT, but e39 M5's are an absolute bargain these days. Readily available for < $40k, even those with extended warranties. Plenty of room, very comfortable, and handle amazing for a sedan. But my next car is a 997 and not another M.
