Default Vario Cam surge annoying?

Is it just me or does anyone else find the surge of the vario cam at 3,200 rpm annoying. My 03 Boxster with 2.7l was much smoother. Is there anything that can be done to make it less noticeable? The only way to get around it is to drive the car harder, but I don't want to do that all the time,

Jim. I know many here have this issue but my last 2 997S's did/do not and I notice everything. I don't know why some cars have it more than others, perhaps for MY 07+ it has been addressed?

Jim, my 996C2 had it and it was quite noticeable. My late model '06 997S has it but it is barely noticeable.

Aftermarket ECU upgrades eliminate this. I use APR out of Auburn,AL.

Rev the as* off it! I've found that if I drive gently, like in town, that the variocam is much more noticeable. Drive it out of town and shift up at somewhere between 5K - 6K for a while and that seems to clear the variocam of its hesitancy. It's a bit like clearing Webers when you've been driving slowly.

Revo software eliminated this for me.

How much are the software upgrades and how does that effect the factory warranty?

Default I can't feel anything when vario cam surge at 3200 rpm in my MY06.

The only thing I can feel (hear) is PSE start to getting louder at 3200 rpm. I always throught vario cam surge at 4000 rpm until now.

I think I paid about $800 (got a discount). Per my dealer, no warranty issue, but your results may vary...

The warranty issue varies and ultimately is up to PNA. RonCT and I have both had good results with different vendors. In the end I don't think is that much different then what Porsche does to the ECU when you order the X-51 Power kit. There are at least 4 vendors offering Software. For instance my Brother has GIAC on his car but he lives in CA with 91 Oct Gas. So go with someone who offers a 93 Program(i don't think GIAC does). APR and Revo both do. I think REVO is headquartered close to you in GA and I know APR does track events at Road Atlanta. The best pricing is usually available at a special or track events.
Hope that helps.

One nice thing about Revo is you can do a trial of 5 engine hours. If you don't like it, no problem. If it works for you, you then pay up and keep the software.
