Ticket Lawyer in North County San Diego
I got a ticket for "excessive display of speed" in Solana Beach today from a Sheriff. Anyone know of a lawyer who works with this kind of case?

I have used Mitch Mehdy a number of times (619-563-1515). His strategy is to postpone the hearing enough times in hopes that the issuing officer doesn’t show for court. If the officer shows he will change the plea to guilty and try and get you traffic school (if you didn’t otherwise qualify). Unless there are extenuating circumstances, if you go to trial and it’s your word against the officers the court will always side with the cop (even if he is a lying under oath SOB).

I've found it better to be driving a non-descript car around as a daily driver these days to avoid getting targeted with stuff like this. If you're the sporty, higher end car in the bunch, then they'll go after you.

Thanks Pugnacious. I'll give Mitch a call. As far as what it is...it really means "excessive display of fun and success in the eyes of the cop". I'll bet if if I made the same turn in my girlfriend's Jetta he'd have hardly looked up from his donuts.

It's a higher charge than a speeding ticket with more impact so I think I need to pay attention to it. I'm also not guilty of speeding and question the use of this law. I think it was written to stop kids from racing not 40 yr olds from taking corners too fast...from a dead stop at a light.

Firstly, thank you taking the heat off me in Solana Beach! Coincedently, I just bought my wife a 2008 Jetta that I've been happy to drive of late also and it's true, you could drive by a cop at 110mph on fire and he wouldn't notice...

Mitch Mehdy is a name that keeps coming up for this type of case. While I lack any personal experience with him, you'd probably be well served going to him. One of my friends has hired him and is very keen on him.
If you think you were overcharged by the Sheriff, you are definitely right to get legal counsel, as this is a much worse ticket than your ordinary speeding or red light. Oddly, the ticket can be written for something as innocuous as revving your engine at a red light if the officer thinks you're doing it to attract attention or get a reaction out of observers.
Short of Coronado, the Sheriff's presence along the 101 and the perpindicular routes to the freeway (LSF Drive, DM Hts. Rd.) in Solana Beach and Del Mar is about as strict as it gets on traffic in San Diego County. These are just not good places to have any fun at all in a car or motorcycle. Country roads beckon.
