I love this thread and it shows the strength of this board - the absolute right for each of us to have and post our opinions. I believe it makes the board and our Porsche ownership more cOmplete. Especially important because we're all in unique situations.

The PSE is frankly way too heavy. Something close to 40 lbs per side is just too much. The hack is a lightweight solution. And even in my situation, i've since moved on from the "gundo" hacked mufflers to a gorgeous set of AWE mufflers that are lighter still and have a completely different, much more baritone sound.

YMMV

I've heard a bunch of compliant about PSEs cracking at the various support brackets. Someing to be aware of.

I agree that the PSE adds weight but the sound is intoxicating. With the added HP and the DFI for the 997.2 , the extra weight is not an issue. My understanding is that Porsche changed the PSE for the 997.2. I think that it is worth every dollar that it cost. Two gotta haves are the PSE and short shift.

Any chance you've got a link for the AWE mufflers you're referring to?

A bit off topic, however, I love the wheels you have on your cab.
Are those HRE's?

I have PSE on my 997 and I always turn it on (except on long road trips).

The only thing that upsets me about PSE is that it does "turn off"
automatically at higher revs to keep the noise down a bit.

Easy enough to correct with an added on/off switch!!
do a search!

Does it? My PSE gets louder as the RPM increases. It roars at 5000rpm.

Mine has the factory on/off switch.

The light on the button comes on (I assume the sport exhaust
is turning itself off) when I am at higher revs.

Does PSE really add weight? Compared to stock (no PSE)? That seems odd. How much?

Why don't you open your engine and unplug the orange so your exhaust valves never close.

The plural of "anecdote" is not "data" but...

I know that Edgy had a bracket weld break on his PSE.

On my 997 C2S Cab I had two replacement PSE resonators (under warranty) due to the little "loud/not loud" flap breaking and causing a loud buzzing noise under acceleration. Both times the problem began after a track weekend, so heat and constant wide-open-throttle probably contributed to the failures. I also had the "orange plug" hack so that the valves were constantly open. I'm pretty sure that didn't help things either.

It would begin with just buzzing when the car was cold and then quiet down once it warmed up. Over time the buzzing would get progressively louder and more constant, until I finally gave in and had the dealer install a replacement resonator.

For any of you interested in the "2" Hack job" why dont you just replace the 2" section with a flapper valve...maybe from an E36 BMW. That way you can control the sound. Homemade PSE! Doesnt get much better than that.

After reading through this thread I'm now considering PSE...My 09' PDK C4S has 10K mi. and I enjoy every minute but I like the idea of an OEM product as is described here. I realize that it isn't a performance part but do like the idea of the exhaust tone being modified at will. Can someone explain how it works, and should I decide, would the install cause potential to butcher anything? I do have a few switch blanks on my console yet hesitaste to let dealer techs start poking around. Ron S from Suncoast is now at Bert Smith...I'd be contacting him for pricing. Whats considered to be a good deal installed? Thanks much.
