I think the P car is either a Carrerra 4 or maybe a 4S. Hard to tell but we know its an AWD 997.

I wonder. 5th Gear had the exact opposite outcome so perhaps a C4 or perhaps just driver skill.

My 2 cents:
1) I don't know how much difference it would make but the C4 has 2 passengers.
2) I can't tell which car I'm hearing shift. Is the C4 a Tip?

It's a Targa 4S with tiptronic no less; I know the guys who ran that test and that was the only Porsche they could get from the press fleet that day. Talk about bringing a knife to a gunfight!

Wasn't the 5th gear test with an X51 car?

Did the Audi in this test have a auto box too?

On most cars, the manual specs are usually faster than the auto. I know there are exceptions but I was thinking if the C4 had beaten the A8 on one occasion, the Tip may have made the difference along with the weight of the extra passenger.

Most know that the turbo Tip is faster 0 - 60 than the manual according to the car mags and Porsche itself.

However, the 0 - 60 on a 4S manual is 4.6 while the tip is 5.0, according to Porsche.

That R8 pulled away pretty good, I can't imagine a manual 2wd 997S doing a whole lot better.

Maybe matching the R8 or very close.

more or less as I shifted the Targa manaully as well. Auto to auto wasn't much different.

As Pongobaz pointed out it was the best-match 911 we had access to. A GT3 is a better match for the R8 in terms of price and performance. That being said the Targa was $156K CDN.
