To Tint or not......
Hey All:
New to the list and a new Porsche owner as well.
I have a new 997 s Cab on the way. Even though every other 911 i see is artic silver, mine is as well
I had the front windows tinted on my truck, an 04 Avalanche, and i felt it helped reduce the heat inside the car on the very hot summer days. I actually thought it looked nice as well.
So, im wondering if i should tint the windows on the Porshe for the very hot days when i will be keeping the top up.
What do you all think, a good look or does it look a bit 'pimpish' ?
cheers

By all means pimp it up. But in Europe you would destroy value. Over tinting windows in excess of the factory grey tint is not a Porsche thing to do. It may add value in the US but not over here.

yea who cares about europe. you live/drive in the US.
tint it up. i did. it serves a functional purpose as well and hardly looks gangster esp if youre not one .]
here's my 996 fully pimped out non-european flavor styles

I'm for tint, very worthwhile IMHO to cut the heat. You can always go with a quality light tint that will not look 'pimpish' but will still cut the UV and a good amount of the heat from direct sun.

Tint is on my list of things to do. On the cars where I have it done, it helps keep the interior heat more manageable. It probably prolongs the life of the interior materials as well.

Thanks everyone, and also for the pic Benjamin.
I thought with the black top Cab the tint might look good, i think i will probably do it but wait a week or so after the car gets here to try and imagaine what it will look like, or do a photshop.
Its sad really, the car isnt here yet and ive allready placed an order for clear side lenses and the little silver plugs that cover up the key hole on the door handle.
After the tint i think i will keep it stock for at least a year and then look at exhaust/airbox.ECu upgardes.
thanks again

Keep in mind that the a/c on the 997s is extremely good,--it will more than keep up with any heat generated by the sun and more. Years ago I had to tint the windows on a coupe to offset the impact of the sun along with a marginal a/c--well known with older 911s. Personally, I believe only two areas merit the need,--Florida and Arizona cars.

This was the 1st thing I did for my Artic Silver cab. I did the same shades of medium (35%) for front, rear, and back. I like it alot, it goes well with the black top. In addition to cutting down the heat, not much to worry about in SoCal, it gives you a certain sense of privacy.
