To Tint or not......

+1 on the tint. I did a very light metallic tint (some can barely tell) (Llumar) it adds a nice look and does block out some sun. I think it sets the car off nicely...especially a silver or black car.

I too tinted my Artic Silver...stayed as close to the lightest I could get. Mine is 35% I believe and I did front and back windows. Same tint % to match the factory tint that I had on my BWM X5 when I did the front windows for it and matched perfectly. I like it on my 997....not too light and definately not too dark which I've seen before.
Personally unless you live south of the equator or something anything past 35% is TOO dark and at night you feel like you're driving in an inkwell!

Do it. If you don't like the dark look and need a lot of heat blocked go with the ceramic stuff. When I got mine done, the guys showed me with a digital heat meter to show the difference between the windshield and the side windows. I went with 50% and is nearly undetectable

For those in the Bay Area needing window tint (ceramic or non-metallic - we do not use metallized films), and would like to know some of the heat rejection benefits, we do carry BTU meters to show the heat rejection rate of various films.
There is a tendency for many to assume that the word "tint" is synonymous to dark. There are various levels of shade with our ceramic based film to be as light as 60% along with 58% IR cut (infrared), which is extremely good. Good films will automatically block 99.7+% of UV rays, so this would help with interior fading. For those looking for more info, we have plenty on our site - www.premiermobilegroup.com.

Here are the benefits of ceramic:
1. produces maximum IR (infrared) rejection
2. film comes as light as 61% - factory glass is at approximately 82%
3. does not affect gps, wireless signals, am/fm, etc.
Here are some pictures showing a BTU meter on glass without ceramic and with ceramic. The result is obvious - a significant reduction in heat with a film that is nearly undetectable. the film is installed onto a brand new F430. Exotic car owners generally do not want to perform many mods to the car and do not like "tint", but with the clarity of ceramics, aesthetics is not affected.

The best time to tint is when it's new. Why do this? The sun will start decomposing your interior immediately. As you may have gathered from the previous posters, even the lightest tint can stop the deteriating effect of the sun. I used to be a tinter a long time ago and that is the first thing I do to a new car. Tint protects all the interior vinyl and rubber parts better than any UV spray or car cover can. It is always on the job and when it starts to self destruct you really know it has taken the beating your interior would have. Just remove it and replace with new tint.
