so DSG is really close now, for most 997 owners, when shopping for next 911, DSG will most likely be avaliable.
what would you choose for your next p-car?

I bet most will still take the 6 speed but I also think more DSG will be sold than the Tiptronic. This post will include comments like:
*learn to drive a manual
*Porsches should only come with a manual
*I'm a boyracer pro and drive faster with a manual
*DSG is for girls
*I do not trust DSG
*my left leg will be bord with DSG
*my middle leg thinks it is bigger than it really is so I will stay with a manual
Personally, I will take the DSG due to my left leg issue with pushing a clutch. If the DSG shifts in manual faster than the Tip I will be in heaven at the track!

think about what happens with ferrari, now F1 tranny is dominate by large number now.
i guess the same thing may happen with p-car too, once they get DSG right.
would they still offer all MT/DSG/TIP? i don't know.

If it's built by ZF I would go for it immediately. Otherwise, I will wait a couple of years while the bugs are worked out. Beta testing for Porsche has been a painful experience in the past.

If Porsche's DSG is at least as comparable to Audi's DSG, then Porsche has a winner, IMO. I had the opportunity to spend a weekend in an Audi TT with DSG and it's incredible. The upshifts are instantaneous with great rev matching during downshift w/o delay. I was once a diehard for manuals, but the DSG makes a great case for driving pleasure, IMO.

My A3's DSG is everything my wife's Boxster S Tip isn't.
When Porsche switches from Tip to DSG, I would have no qualms about buying one (for her). For me...I just feel better "rowing the boat."
The DSG technology Porsche is working on is not new; don't worry about the "first generation" being unreliable. The "first generation" came out about four years ago.

I love the SMG in BMW's so if a superior alternative comes to Porsche I'll get it in my next car without a doubt, assuming of course that it isn't problematic in the first few MY's.

DSG technology is superior to SMG, or Ferrari's F1 technology.

I drove a Audi with DSG last month and LOVED IT!!!! Very fast shifting...very fast! DSG would be awesome on the track! My wife drives the Porsche, no problems.

Something does not sit right with me when it comes to 911 and DSG. Most important factor is that unlike Ferrari, Porsche does not use DSG in any of their racing technologies, at least to my knowledge. Secondly, DSG contradicts the image of involved driving that you get with almost any 911. Given that, I appreciate the technology itself very much and would enjoy it on many other cars, maybe even Cayman. Perhaps I have not yet been brainwahsed by Porsche marketing but the whole p-car/DSG marriage does not sit well with me.
