Although not a RRS, my wife's best friend was driving their newish LR3 on the freeway when it decided to stop, turns out the drive shaft was too short and essentially fell out of the differential. Her exact words during her frantic 911 call, with her 5 year old daughter in back, were "I don't want to die on the L.I.E. (long island expressway)." This is after numerous visits to the shop for a myriad of issues. Bottom line, i would be very wary and think twice before buying a LR product.

I believe this is the drive shaft problem in question:

Ummm, that drive shaft link is for the Range Rover, not the LR3. Sounds fishy to me. Anyway, the model in question here is the Range Rover Sport.

I'd look at the new Lexus LX570 before buying anything from LR. I've got an '01 Land Cruiser and I love it. It's needed a few repairs over the past year, but it's 6 years old and has 97K. What I love is that it has no rattles, the leather is hardly worn, etc. I thought about the RR when I bought it last year, but I've just heard too many horror stories about the reliability and service.

I've owned several Rovers - the greatest being a Defender SW. Loved them all, but each has its quirks - kind of the price of entry with Rover. I expected and had heard from some friends that the RRS was well sorted. I do think it is sharp.

But why no love for the Q7? The styling may be a little different to some, but I think it is gorgeous. The inside is plush and miles of room. Drives wonderfully I thought.

When my wife tires of our A4 Avant, the Q is one deck. Also, my father in law just took delivery of a new A5. In Spain. What a wonderful car. IMHO Audi is cooking.
