I drove an '07 C6 today for the first time. Awesome power without question but felt like seating in a tub and the steering was numb. The 08 is supposed to have an improved steering.
Comments from 996/997 owners who tried a C6 are welcome.

No reason for fireworks. I have a lot of respect for the C6. It is an awesome car. It is however rather different. I like potatos you like potatoes... I'm interested in honest feedback from drivers who know both well.
My experience today is that the 2 cars are substantially different. If i had never driven a 911 i might immediately get comfortable with a C6.

Well there's little or no reason to pay extra for a Carrera from a performance or reliability perspective. Vettes are great cars. Getting 430 hp from an engine that's just as fuel efficient, no larger and no heavier than the Porsche 3.8 flat 6 points up Porsche's challenge to remain competitive with the flat 6 design. Likewise the GT3 motor versus the Z06 motor.
While I love the way my flat 6 sounds, but I think we'd be better served if our P-cars came with the pushrod small block and it was the Chevy with the flat 6. And I got no problem with how a healthy small block sounds, either!

In a heartbeat... as soon as Chevro-lay gets the rip roaring, plastic doored V8 thing to handle, steer, and shift HALF... and may I repeat FLIPPIN' HALF... as nicely as a 997 "anything". When that happens, I'll take two Corvettes (again) thank you very lay-tle.
And, this girl has nice **** -

Interesting. I actually drove a Z51-equipped C6 and felt it quite soft. I'm not saying uncontrolled - as I had little chance to test the suspension. My 996 C4 is far stiffer. I did not find fault with the interior cosmetics (not even LT4-trim) on the '08 C6.

I think the C6 is the best-looking Vette yet, but the interior (even with the new for '08 upgrade) looks/feels cheesy. That will always be a deal-killer...
As for performance, everyone loves to e-race, but in the real world, I found I could only use my 911's performance 2-3% of all my driving. That made the comfortable, well-made, interesting interior all the more worth it. (It really makes my RS4 worth it...)

there's no substitute for pushrod, american V8 horsepower. recently, i had an impromptu caravan commute with a C6 (non Z06), i was quite surprised by its brute power in the upper mph's. we were crusing at about 90mph going uphill, then he changes lanes and starts acclerating hard. i down**** to 5th, push it hard although not gunning it, look down and i'm at about 6-7k rpms (mph undisclosed), and he's gaining a lead. afterwards, i compared the numbers and the cars are a bit equal until C6 takes about a .5 sec lead past 100mph or so. that all being said, the car mags say, in addition to improved steering feel, the all-leather interior option for 2008 vettes is a vast improvement (and expensive too), but it still looks like a cobalt inside. a cheap, bland interior is a big reason why i sold my 996 for the 997. imho, interior quality is a big factor. i think chevy would sell so much more vettes if they just improved the interior quality (the new tahoe interiors look nice).

The new C6.5 (2008) car is going to hurt 997 sales numbers...you just watch. The steering is Porsche like and the power is intoxicating. The current Vette and the new 2008 will run away form a 997S on the track and it will give Turbo's and Gt3's a fit and even surpase them. Porsche has fallen way back in this reguard. Plus mods to a Vette cost half as much. No longer will we be able to argue that the interior of the Vette is inferior. The new 2008 Vette leather package is every bit as good as Porsche.
