Jesuschrist, no. That you have to take a Corvette to a Chevy dealer for service is reason enough not to buy one. "Wowzers, you got one of dem rare stick shift ones! Wujn't yew like to trade for a nice smooth-shifting hydramatic?"

I drove an 07 z06 vette the other day. Very nice car and great power, but I prefer my 911. It was almost too raw and I did not like the seating position. Heads up was kinda cool.

Despite the ongoing more-is-less 997 debate, the C4S still reminds me of all the things that define a 911 and make it great. That amazing size-to-speed ratio, the intensity and resolution of tactile and aural feedback (steering, suspension, engine sound), the oversteer – even if it’s especially hard to extract in the case of the C4S. And it is hard to ignore the 911’s singular aesthetic, the finely honed minimalism where the car’s envelope in space is as tight and as simple as possible. You can argue that no one needs a car that’s faster. No one needs one with fiercer acceleration, greater grip, stronger brakes, better build or more bodywork. You can argue that, at a little over £70K, the 911 C4S is, quite simply, the most complete, cost-effective supercar on the planet.

It is weird... the C6 seats cannot be set as upright as the Porsche seats allow, because the integrated headrest is more tilted to the front. The Porsche seats are far more ergonomical and are better for one's back. Most people prefer laid back seats and tilt their heads forward like the hunchback of Notre Dame.

Had to chime in... yea right. I have a C6 Corvette (2007 with the A6) nice car and lots of room for trips. I agree the interior is , well below standards. I had a Cayman S for a year ( first Porsche after a 30 year lay off) and traded it on a GT3. I can say the GT3 will handle anything Chevy has including the Z06 and the quality is outstanding. I am even tinkering with trading the vette on a 997 because of the handling, transmission and especially the seats. Only drawback is that the Corvette will easily store golf clubs. In the 997 it is either the passenger seat or the back seat. The other plus for the Corvette is that although it is serviced by Chevy dealers there are lots of them around. That all said I'm still thinking a 997 in Cobalt Blue with stone gray interior would be a great stable mate for the GT3 and since my wife is not driving the Corvette I could go back to manual in it also. Its great to be 65 and dream.

Im driving an 07 C6 now but it was almost an 06 C2S last year! Dealer had a pre-owned P-car with 5K on the clock. For what he wanted for it, I chose the C6. it is my 10th Corvette but next year, it will magically turn into a C4S. The 08 Corvette has a revised steering rack whish greatly improves the handling and feel but it does nothing for the "garbage can interior" or the radio that comes straight out of a cereal box!! Ive grown accustomed to a V-8 growl and that is probably the only thing that I will miss besides a few sheckles.

I've owned a C5 ZO6, a C6 Z51, driven a couple of C6 ZO6's, and currently own a 997S; my first Porsche, and I've had it about 8 months. Before these cars, I had an E46 M3, and started doing track schools about 6 years ago. Assuming both cars are in your budget, I think your choice simply depends on your priorities. If my sports car was driven only rarely on weekends or track events, I would still have the C5 ZO6. While the C6 is improved in some ways, the older ZO6 is a better handling track car; definitely quicker around the track than the 997S. As a daily driver, the C6 is an improved car, and the Z51 option is a good package; comfortable but still a good handling car. The perceived weaknesses of the Vette are well documented, and I prefer the more communicative feel of the 997S; just more fun for me, but that is a totally subjective thing. I miss the ease of serviceability of the Vette, seems like everything on the Porsche is bit more difficult, requires a special tool, more expensive, etc. I guess Jay Leno was right about the Vette, "Hey, it's a Chevy, all you need's a hammer!". For now, I'm enjoying the Porsche, but I'm also keeping my eye on the continuing improvements of the Vette.
