It looks like the new AMG C63 will outperform the new BMW M3. How do you think it will compare to the 997 S? It seems it will be much faster, and challenge in the handling department as well compared to the 997S.

3800lbs? Ummm, no. Its just another tarted up sedan posing as a sports car. The 997 is a proper sports car, low center of gravity, purpose built. Sorry, but that's just how it is.

Isn't it wild how every new performance car introduced into the market M6, Aston, AMG 63, etc is immediately compared to the 911S? Yet the 911S is compared to ...nothing. It seems to be the top of the heap until you make that final leap to Ferrari. Everything else is just trying to get in the comparison.

I think the AMG's natural competitors are the BMW M cars .. It is like comapring the scalpel (Porsche) with a steak knife (AMG / M Car) .. Both cut but one is more precise than the other ..

...last pass I saw (in the current Automobile Mag? or was it last week's Autoweek?) was that the Nissan Skyline will knock the 911 off the throne as the sports car to beat.
Sure. Just like the R8 did...
Thank gosh I'm not an automotive writer. What a lousy job! <g>

The Nissan Skyline probably has the power to do it but what a busy looking car! The Japanese have some work to do to get the styling part down.

I own a 07 M6 coupe (moded to around 570hp), and yes it is fast, luxurious, and has every electronic qizmo I would every want, but it is not a sports car. A great GT car yes, though I would never compare it to a 997S. I'm glad I am able to own both types of cars.

I wonder if this MB was handcrafted by the same design committee at Chryslerthat did the Magnum...the interior and exterior remind me of the hundreds of nondescript, blase four-wheeled vehicles filling our American highways. This one is way off the mark.

I think it looks fine, appropriate for what it is, recognizable as a MB, and far better than anything coming out of BMW these days. The C-class has always been conservatively designed, with the AMG versions very subtly different...that's their MO...with badges pulled off and limiter removed, on the Autobahn they will give unsuspecting Porsche drivers a run for our money.
