I recently purchased a slightly used 2007 Meteor Gray C2S. Before you ask, I have already posted pictures. The car has the optional Turbo wheels. The original owner of the car put some curb rash on one of my rear wheels. It is not too bad, and in fact I did not even notice it until I washed the car the day after I bought it (from dealer).
The rash is not bad, but does bother me. I have a wheel repair person recommended by the dealer coming to my house to look at the wheel. The part that has the rash is the outer lip of the car. Those familair with the Turbo wheels (which I assume is most of you guys) know that the outer lip is a highly polished surface. The only paint is clear coat.
Has anyone had any experience with refinishing a polished lip like on the Turbo wheel? It is very similar to the optional 19 wheels on the M3. The cost for the repair is minimal, about $100, and I might even be able to get the dealer to pay, so that is not the issue.
Bottom line is I don't want to make it worse. I know you guys probably don't have any experience with this company (Prince Wheels of the Carolinas), but just wondering if you had any experience with surface repair on a polished wheel like the Turbo wheels.
To do it right the tire will need to be removed from the rim and have the whole rim refinished. Try WheelAmerica or such...cost is about $150.00 per wheel. I found that the wheel repair done with the wheel and tire still on the car looks good for about a week, but then you will see the blend lines as well as brake-dust sticking to where ever they painted..just my experience.
My wife scrubbed the rim on her Cayenne S Ti (which has the two tone 19" Sport rims). I called the selling Porsche dealership who recommended the person that they use. The repair was flawless, completed in about an hour at the dealership, has held up perfectly and cost $60. The curb rash covered about 1/3 of the rim lip.
He broke the seal to move the tire away from the rim and taped the spokes (so that the clear wouldn't affect the tire color or differentiated color. I would do this for any curb rash again every time. I could not be more pleased. I would see if my service advisor will recommend their person. As long as it's a very strong professional, you should be okay. Of course, I'm lucky to be in Atlanta where someone with this type of company can make a small fortune.
Here's another man who I highly recommend. Mike Lindsey in Oklahoma City. He began as a body shop many years ago and began refinishing wheels. He now even does wheel widening. Mike does really good work. Google him for his site. Many older Porsche owners turn to Mike to have their older forged Fuchs alloys opened up to 17 in diameter wheels. I knew him through the Porsche Club.

I went ahead and had my wheel refinished. The person came to my house, which was great. Fortunatley, my rash was minor and was mostly in the clear coat. There was only one small spot that went into the metal. I am extremely happy with the job done. I do not think anyone who did not know the wheel had been damaged could tell it has been refinished. Maybe if they got down on the ground and looked very closely, they could tell.

Glad to hear it worked out I did not realize there was not any damage to the metal as I believe that's what the guy's at wheel enhancements were referring to when they indcated they could not be properly refinished.
