Hey the spouse was selling her ipod on ebay and came across these wheels while browsing for p-cars? Look nice and seem to be a great deal. Anybody with experience and thoughts on 997 wheels 19" from ebay? I know there are tons of configurations and variability to consider but I thought I'd ask the experts...she's looking for a father's day gift and "new shoes" is always nice...especially when they're for the Carrera. My concern would be weight, quality, offset, fit, etc...

The first set is 10.5" inches wide on the rear and the rest are 10" wide. The 997S comes standard with 11" wide wheels on the rear (for reference, I have a C2 like you). I would go for the wider wheels. I e-mailed the second vendor a while back to see if they had 11" wide wheels and they did not at that time. Also, their shipping is pretty high considereing this is wheels only (no tires).

 

....and if anyone has experience with these wheels as well?

if you dont want to spend much money and do not want to get used wheels, the only wheels i would consider are the victor equipment ones.
why would you get a "3-piece look" wheel?

 

agree...the Victors are at least decent quality. I would not even contemplete putting the ones posted above on my car.

 

A very good substitute to those are the Rial Daytona's. They are a true 3-piece wheel and they go for about 1600.00 brand new on tirerack.com

 

Isn't that strange...Everytime my gf ask me to sell something for her on Ebay... I end up finding all these Porsche parts I can't live without.

 

During my search for aftermarket track wheels I've looked at everything out there and ended up concluding that I would buy from a place like Wheel Enhancement, Fikse, Forgeline, or Tire Rack (there may be more, just giving examples). A wheel that is truly engineered / designed, tested, etc. Something like oem that has certification (ie: TUV). One of the reasons is I don't want failure or something that's not going to look good over the long-term. These are $80-120,000 cars, so why save a few dollars on getting sub-standard wheels? I'm not saying these are, just that buying knock-offs, unknown manufacturers and processes, etc. cause me to wonder. Just how do they sell such wheels for half what a known wheel costs (BBS, Fikse, Porsche, etc.)?

Also, just what to the wheels weigh? We all know about the effects of additional unsprung weight. There's a Moda wheel at Tire Rack that's VERY heavy. It's also very inexpensive, which leads me to think that instead of close-tolerance engineering / manufacturing, they "over designed" to put enough material into the wheel just to be safe. The ratio of unsprung weight to power is about 1:1 - meaning one additional pound of unsprung weight is like removing 1 hp from your car. If you have a 24 lb wheel now and buy a 34 lb one, then you just effectively de-tuned your car by 10 hp.

I suppose it all depends on what you want...

 

Ron, I agree why chaep out on wheels for a Porsche. The 17 year old Snoop Dawg kid down the street with his grandma's old '82 Cutlass has some cheap Dub's on his ride.

If any of you get aftermarket wheel and want to sell off your stock OEM lobster fork wheels I am interested in these for a set of track wheels.

No lobsters but I do have an extra set of Carrera classics - TPMS, center caps, PS2's off a C4S after about 2,000 miles - wheels are perfect. PM if interested.

 

Not sure, but I think he has a narrowbody, so the rears from your widebody won't have the correct offsets... I'd like a set of narrowbody take-off Carrera classics myself

 

I have a C2S. I do not have TPMS. Lobsters are the lightest from what I have been told. Can 305's be put on the rear OEM lobster forks?

 

Sure, 305s are fine on 11" wheels... Lobsters are the lightest oem narrowbody wheels - there are a few threads here at RL listing them all out.
