Here are some pics of a "damaged" clutch plate and flywheel. This clutch is only 9000 miles old, and you can see the uneven wear and the fibers flaking off. My dealer said he'd never seen anything like this in his 20+ years of experience. Notice the blue glaze on the flywheel also. This clutch made a squeaky noise as it engaged, as many of you have reported as well.

I am definitely going to bring that up at my upcoming 10K service. My car makes a slight squeal right at the bite point of my clutch and then I never hear it again. Also, I only notice it in first gear. Does this sound like your problem?

Also, did Porsche warranty the clutch for you?

So is this considered "abuse"? Did you track your car or dump the clutch a lot?? Did the Dealer give you a hard time about this? Certainly too few miles for a new clutch.

Overheating -- this clutch experienced too much heat. It doesnt take much to do this type of damage.

One time in the hands (left foot) of the wrong person can overheat and glaze a clutch where it will not bite like it should for the rest of its life. Then it down hill from there..

So what was the outcome? These things rarely occur on their own. A squeeky clutch cable isn't all to the story.

Wow, that thing is cooked. Even the center disc spider is blued near the rivets.

It had to stink badly on takeoff... I guess that a bad slave (or master) cylinder could cause this to happen if it didn't allow complete engagement. Did you notice any acrid / funny smells, Doc?

I treat my clutch like a switch. It's either fully engaged, or fully disengaged. With AWD, the clutch will loose the battle every time you try to slip it.

I hope that this was determined to be a warranty replacement.

The squeeky clutch cable is probably not ANY part of the problem....since there is no cable.

I bought the car used last year, and noticed the squeaky noise as I was driving out of the dealer lot. I took it to a real Porsche dealer and he showed this to me. It was not covered under warranty as he said this is result of abuse, but fortunately, the previousl owner (the first dealer) agreed to pay for the replacement. I guess he must have realized the damage he did to it...

Ah yea, the old "the first owner did it" deal. It's amazing the number of idiots who can screw up a clutch well before its time. Good to hear that it got resolved satisfactorily.

That's a bunch of crap. So if my foot slips the clutch after getting in the car while it's raining, that's abuse? Not likely... If the clutch is that fragile, the car is a piece of junk. I've owned a bunch of cars with "fragile" clutches (Evo, S2000, S4) and all of them lasted a LONG time on the stock clutch.

When I take mine in for service, I'll report back what the dealer says about my squeak. I don't have any slippage issues, so I doubt it's that bad - I just need to be sure.

My 997S clutch lasted all of 4000 miles with average driving. I've had several Porsches as well as other cars and have never replaced a clutch until now. Mine was groaning/squeaking when you started from a stop. Dealer said there was uneven wear and they did replace it under warranty with no questions asked.

I notice quite a bit of vibration coming from the clutch pedal now which the dealer says is normal. Don't remember it being like that but I honestly don't remember. Anyone else getting vibration from the clutch pedal when shifting?
