Question discount on new 997/c2s??

hello board....looking at a new 997/c2s 2006 at a dealer with good options and giving a 10k discount,is this a good deal? the 2008's are out in two months , so this car will be 2 years old on depreciation already or 20% of car cost...should i push for more of a discount if i want this car or look elsewhere......thank you in advance for your always great comments and insight

Sounds fair. I have see 9k to 10k discounts. One dealer has 13k off on a partcular model.

What is the sticker price of the car? 10K off an $85K car = 11.7% and 10K off a 100K car = 10.0%. IMO, that is about the discount you should expect on a 2007 car on the lot. As you mentioned, the car will soon be 2 years old and take a minimum of 20% depreciation hit.

About 26 months ago, I turned down a 13.8% discount ($10,350) on a new, lightly optioned, 2004 996 with a sticker of $74,850. Three weeks later I bought a used 2004 996 (sticker $81,859) with 6,450 miles on it for $63,500, which equated to 22.4% off of sticker. I am glad I kept looking, because my car has many more options than the new '04 I passed on and is not the typical silver/black color combo.

IMO, you should be able to do better on a 2006.

I would think 13k is good and 16k would be a great deal. Remember, it all depends upon how badly they want to sell it and how much "Porsche money" they are willing to kick in.

When I was looking at the new 2004 with the sticker of $74,850, my salesman called me and asked me to come down to the dealership because they were going to make me a HOT deal. I left work early and drove 50 minutes to get there.

I talked with the Finance guy and he presented the HOT deal of $72,000. I told him that I was very angry that they had wasted more than 2 hours of my time (50 minute drive to dealer, 30 minutes of BS, and 30 minute drive home) for a token discount on a one year old car and got up and left his office. The salesman asked me what I thought and I told him the same thing I told the Finance guy.

Before I could get in my car the Finance guy and the GM came out and made be the second offer of $64,500. Some where they "found" an additional $7,500 to discount in about 2 minutes. I said I would think about it and left. The next day I told the salesman "thanks, but no thanks" primarily because I didn't like being treated like I was a complete idiot by their Finance guy and that the Finance guy had blown his sale.

Don’t fall for the BS that the 2006 is a new car and they can't discount it $13k to $16k. If he tries this tactic then ask him this question: if two cars, a 2006 and a 2007 that were identically equipped and with 10,000 miles on them, came in for trade-in on an '08 997, which car would get the higher trade-in amount?

Negotiate like you don't care if you get the car or not and most of all, be ready to walk away at any time. Once they think they have you "hooked" then they will not go much lower in price. Do your research and go in with a price in mind and start below that price. You can always go higher but you can’t go lower.

Default Just bought a '06

I just completed a deal on a new '06 C2s cab. I got 13k off a 100k list, so 13%. Looking back, I *think* if I pushed harder, I could have gotten a little bit more off.

Couldn't agree more. In other words they are saying, "hey, we were trying to rip you off but you didn't bite so here's another bite at the cherry". I would definitely walk away from that kind of "deal". Some would argue that you should just play the game and take the deal, but I think you got it right.....

If you like the car, take an hour or so and go down and talk to them. The only thing you have to lose is some time. What you may gain is 1) a deeper discount and 2) a car.

If nothing else, use this opportunity as "practice" for negitiating with a dealer. I challenge myself to "beat" them at their own game. While most of us never really "beat" them, I just want to "hold my own" and if I get the car for a price which I deem to be fair, and they make money, it's a win/win situation. There have been times that I felt I may have left $500 - $750 on the table, but did the deal anyway because I thought it was a fair price.

Act like you can take it or leave it, and you will come out better for it. It could be that the price you are willing to pay is, in fact, too low and they won't sell the cat at that price. If that is the case, just walk away. If the price is "close" they will call you back in a day or two to make you a counter offer.

Most of all, have fun and treat it like a game.

Please let us know the results of your findings. Since cars are optioned differently, an average or "general" discount amount will be interesting to hear. Good luck in your search!

Playing the game is fun. Remember to wait for end of month to buy a car.

Been shopping for a high-demand 335i coupe. Both Scottsdale dealers offered a few hundred off msrp. Called'em both on April 29th. Offered two thousand off sticker. One bit for $1500 off. Also, forced a .00185 lease money factor out of them (sweet deal: $2500 down, $559/mo 3yrs).

Salesguy admitted that end-of-month push was why they made the deal.
