Made the change today from my original Sport Design wheels to Carrera Sports painted Black. It's a radical change from "stylish" to "purposeful," I think. The Black wheels are reminiscent of the painted Fuchs on my '88 911, which is a good thing. Not to mention how much easier they will be to maintain versus the Sport Designs.
Big kudos to Dave at Wheel Enhancement in Culver City for another quick and painless transaction. And thanks to fellow-Rennlister, Lori, for the inspiration.
Very nice swap. It really gives your car a more aggressive look and I really like the way the outer rim offsets the black center. I have XRR wheels on my slate grey C4S. I'm toying with idea of changing wheels but don't feel comfortable ordering without really seeing how they would look. I could e-mail couple of pictures to fellow rennlister with photoshop skills to see how your black XRR's would look on my car...sorry I'm not very skilled at the computer! Andy
Hey John, do you still have the Sport Design wheels?
I'll buy them off you if you're interested in selling them.
I just love them and wished I had ordered them with my car.
I'm guessing you probably traded them in, if that was at all possible.
Sorry, Ben. Wheel Enhancement generously took the Sport Designs in "on trade" for the new shoes.
If you really want Sport Designs for your car, call them. I know they've got sets of "slightly used" OEM wheels at prices that should easily beat buying brand new ones.
Having cleaned those 15-spoke beauties for 18 months, I can tell you I won't miss 'em...very much.
I realize they might be a bit more work cleaning them, but I have a pretty good cleaning tool in mind to make cleaning them a cinch. My only concern is not being to clean the inside of the wheels like I can with my classics. With that many spokes, though, it doesn't seem like you would notice the inside of the wheels much, do you?
Btw, I perfectly "registered" my caps two Saturdays ago when I finally got around to washing the beaut. And I did them perfectly too, just in case you happened to see my car and write me up for not having perfect registration.
.....I have a pretty good cleaning tool in mind to make cleaning them a cinch....
Problem is my tool can only fit between the Carrera Classics with the five spokes. I'd never be able to get in between those tight little cracks on the sport wheels.
