It's funny how the information differs. When I bought my car, I was also introduced to the head of the services department; I asked him about oil changes and he told me to take my 997 in at 20,000 mls and - verbatim - "I don't want to see you a mile earlier."

I was talking with a Porsche race car builder / mechanic about just this question. He said if he owned one he'd change the oil every 5K miles. Short money to maintain an exspensive engine to repair. I agree with him. Every 5K...

I changed mine at 6k and will again shortly at 11-12K. I also knocked the dirt out of the Air Filter by slapping it on the top of my Garbage Can. I will do this at every Oil Change.
The car runs better on fresh oil and a cleaner A-F. Call me crazy but I did notice the difference.

I too changed oil early just to remove any break-in debris. If you do want to do it early, I'd bring your own oil. The dealer who did the work charged me over $11.00 per quart!!! Total service charge, over $300!! And no, I didn't get the nice crystal decanter the oil came in....

It can't hurt to change it early. Best is right after spring when you plan to do more driving.

Regards,
Deanski

A drunken homeless man that claimed he'd once seen a Porsche said to change the oil at exactly 10,472 miles or I would be struck dead by lightning on my 34th birthday.

I'll change it once a year, in the fall when I put it away. Wouldn't want it to sleep all winter with dirty oil.

I drive my cars very hard from the minute I sign the papers, so I have always changed the oil after the 1st 2 to 3000 miles.
