Is anyone aware of a oil related engine failure in these cars?

I have researched this thing to death. It is very clear that Mobil 1 can easily go 20,000 miles on a modern Porsche engine with a high quality filter. My dealer insisted that doing it any earlier would be a total waste.
That said, for my peace of mind, and given I intend to keep this car well past 100,000 miles I intend to change the oil every 10,000 miles. Probably not needed, but relatively speaking inexpensive and makes me feel a little better.
Clearly anything more frequent is just not needed and wasteful. I've read many reports of high mileage synthetic oil that still passes the quality and viscosity test.

A warning!! My 2005 C2S had no problems until I took it in for a 2 year service at Carlsen's. It only had 8700 miles on it. One day after my service, my water temp. guage failed. Two days later, my check engine lite went on. They replaced a temperature sensor. The next week my check engine lite went on again, and Carlsen diagnosed an "inefficient water cooling" problem and ordered a new thermostat from Germany. Is it a coincidence that my car is having problems only after my first service??

Here's a study on the longevity of Mobil 1 oil in an LS-1 (modern small block Chevy) and how it changes as the miles go by. It does seem to be a very durable oil, but after reading this I decided that I will probably change my oil at the 10K interval. http://neptune.spacebears.com/cars/stories/mobil1.html

However I clean my pipes regularly.

Changed mine at 3000 miles after two AX days and one track day. However, I don't plan to change again until I absolutely have to.
BTW, is there a warning light in the car to tell you when the next service is?????

Oddly though, I searched the article several times and couldn't find a reference to 1999Porsche911. I'm sure it must be a mistake.

Going 'by the book' I plan on changing the oil at 20 000 miles. I currently have 14 500 miles in 15 months. Interesing how people want to follow the break-in suggestions 'by the book' but then do their own thing with the oil change. I suppose over reving is more harmful than premature oil changes. But as a side note, I have added 1 quart of oil overall.

Lucky for all of us it must have slipped by him. Otherwise we would have gotten another slew of postings on his take on 996/997 engine lubrication...
