Around here we have those watch your speed radar signs. I've noticed that it doesn't pick them up as usual. So either there is a new band that the Valentine doesnt receive or it's not working right. Anyone else have this happen? I'm going to be in big trouble if I am not getting alerts. It lights up and beeps like normal when you plug it in.
Make a note of your V1 serial # and check it on the Valentine website. They regularly offer updates to software or sensors to match current radar/laser technology.
But if your police have shifted to using laser you may want to consider getting a laser jammer.
Depending on your model you may or may not have the option. Click on the link, it shows the codes and how to activate or de-activate modes using the back door codes. http://www.valentine1.com/lab/MikesLabRpt3.asp
My updated new V1 has failed so badly that I do not use it any longer. Terrible range, constant false alarms regardless of setting. I have been a lifelong user from day one with Valentine but it has become VERY obvious that they are not aware of new police technology currently in operation.

I have Valentines for years. They are a tool not a cure all. It depends in which state your in too and how much money law enforcement has. I swear in Colorado they can get you from a long ways off in a oncoming situation. While around here most cops drive around with their radar on and you can hear them for miles. I am disappointed that my latest Valentine only lasted for two years. I'll order a new one and send this one in. I do hope their quality doesn't go down. That would leave myself and everybody else on this board rather naked.
I've notice the same thing here in LA. I have one of those stationary units parked nearby and my V-1, on the L setting, never reads it. It does however read the Ka band just fine thank you and that's all I care about .....
Check the Valentine web site and Escort radar web site. Both mention traffic "radar" speed signs that do not operate within the receivers range. I believe the traffic speed signs that do not set off your detector are for info only, not revenue generation.

If there was a question regarding design, I'm sure a PM would get you an answer.
