I know, it's sexy! And tempting...
If anyone's interested, there's an official press release article HERE.
and lots of pics, as well as shots from the Geneva Auto Show.
It's still the prototype or whatever it's called. They'll iron things out before production. On the whole I still prefer the e46 at this point, but who knows once the final product is out.
With 440hp and the same engine weight as the old I-6, plus carbon fiber roof... could be interesting contender.
Also... rumor is that they WILL import the CSL version this time. Now that would be a car to have!
Yeah, the E46 M3 is hard to beat styling-wise, I feel it's one of the best looking Bimmers ever.
But this new E92 is not bad either, especially what's under the hood.
Weight??? The problem I expect with this car is that I think it'll be a porker. Oink, oink, oink. The 335i is a heavy car.
Weight was the biggest problem with the evolution of the M3 from the E36 to the E46 chassis. I never saw an E46 get a TTOD at BMWCCA autocross; it was almost always an E36 chassis, and if not that, then an E30 or E21 chassis race car. The E46's extra power could never make up for all its weight on a slow speed course.
Not only the weight, but also the weight distribution. The 335i Coupe is already 51.2/48.8 (manual) 51.4/48.6 (automatic), and the M3 is with a heavier V8 in the front. Gone is the signature BMW 50/50 weight distribution.
However, the E92 M3 is still a very attractive car, I expect it will be a hit.
