I agree with you 100%. The interaction with the car of working a real MT with a "foot" controlled clutch pedal is very satisfying.

Hasn't BMW dumped the SMG for the new M3 with a DSG to follow?

Audi uses DSG in the Bugatti Veyron so it can certainly handle the power.

The Veyron has a direct shift gearbox designed for high power, but it is way more expensive than the DSG used in the other VW family vehicles like the A3, TT etc. Porsche would want something that costs less... and so would the customers. The going rate to replace a blown DSG in the A3 is about $12k... even more than the cost of replace a CVT tranny in an A4!

I think that is the rumor but it's yet to be confirmed.

Excellent metaphor. I'm going to use that one next time someone needs to know why I like stick.

Satisfying in a low-tech kind of way maybe... .

Too bad a MT-equipped car is slower around the track, any track.

Now, with PDK, you can think about other stuff that's happening to the car (and no longer stuff like where the tach is at and how the car is losing balance when the clutch is pushed) it stays just as intense AND you're going faster.

Holy crap I actually said a decent metaphor!

MMD- Personally, I'm in love with low-tech- if that means I can use my legs and hands to wring every ounce of performance out of that baby.......meaning- it's ALL up to driver ability.

There's something really satisfying about beating the pants off of someone around a track and knowing it was all YOU. Sure flipping paddles is fun. Just not nearly the same.

I guess that's why I'm such an old school believer in RWD for a sports car. Hanging your *** out of a corner with mid corner darkies and making sure you don't bury it into a gravel trap or barrier is what it's all about.

MAN&MACHINE.
