I just checked out my local paper and a nearby Porsche Dealer is offering some serious discounts on '07 997s. One example of many is an '07 997 Cabrio that is being reduced from $91,785 to $81,785. I wonder if Porsche is offering market support to their Dealers?

That's a pretty deep discount on an 07 - is the car a demo or perhaps lightly used?
I wouldn't trust too much on the local newspaper ad, especially in the Sunday papers. Usually it is just to attract attention.
However, that being say, there are quite some 997 Cabrio in the dealer inventory, and there are some good deals out there. I heard that many new Porsche cars are arriving the US ports these coupe weeks (mine just arrived in San Diego this week), so may be the dealers want to make room for the new arrival...?
A $10K discount on a $91K 2007 997 Cabrio is a little extreme. However, I guess with some good search and negotiation, a $10K discount on a heavily loaded 2006 997S Cabrio is quite possible (those well over $100K MSRP). Even in the sunny & warm Northern California here, a few 2006 997 Cabrio are still unsold in the dealers lot.
My dealer just gave me $6K discount on any 2007 997S Coupe; whether I order one, find one in its lot, or find one in other dealer's lot. I am happy with it, but I guess I can push a little bit more discount if I really need to. I think if I would want a 2006 997S Cabrio from my dealer (especially on the heavily loaded ones), a $10K discount is not impossible.
Valley Motors in MD. They have a lot full of Porsches and are anxious to sell them. All of their cars are reduced significantly. If you are interested call 410 666 7777 and ask for Ron Russel.
BTW I have no affiliation with this Dealer. I just thought I'd pass this along to anyone who's in the market.
They're not doing well; that's their reasoning for unloading inventories and to reduce floor plan. We're starting to see a trend of dealerships turning over; at least from our prospective.
It's a shame really, but typically when you have uninterested owership, the decline in sales with huge floor plan typically smells of ownership change over. Hey, you guys benefit! Right?!
We bought a lot of cars off of a dealer in a similar situation.

I wouldn't say that - the dealers around here are advertising deep discounts. I beat them to it and when I ordered in October I negotiated a 9% discount. The advertised discounts aren't near that (maybe 3-4%), but from 2004 through a few months ago a dealer advertising a discount on a Porsche was pretty much unheard of. Sign of the times - overproduction (supply outpacing demand).
Porsche GmbH is probably pushing hard on all dealers in all Geos to ensure that sales numbers for CY07 surpass those from CY06... which will be a damned tough task...
That's the biggest issue with posting record profits, you feel compelled to beat them for the next year. Plus, Porsche is financing the VW "realignment" this year. That won't be cheap.

Trust me... I'm in sales. <g>

Of course it's driving the market as a whole and while I do agree with you; this particular situation has nothing to do with the latter and everything do with poor or under-performing dealerships. We observe dealerships who consistantly sell one, two or even 5 cars a month. Hardly inline with PAG or PCNA's growth vision. If you take a cross section of all dealerships and brands you'll see this trend of 'blowing out cars' to make way for new ownership happening nationally.
Infact, we found out that less then 50% of all Mercedes Benz Dealerships in the country were profitable. Now that is scary...But again, it has everything to do with that dealerships cultural beliefs- exactly 'what' experience are they offering their clients. The ones who shine are the ones were you get great deals on cars and service that is exceptional.
Isn't next year's 997 suppose to come out with FSI and more HP?
$10k discount is not too hard to get. My local dealer offered that after a test drive. I didn't even ask about prices. Granted, this was 2 yrs ago on a green 996 cab.
