On the Merrit, they sometimes get into highway orange maintenance trucks or pick-ups with the laser gun and as soon as you go by, there's a half dozen troopers to flag you down to pull over to the side of the road
If there's a better patrolled stretch of highway than the Merrit parkway, I'd be surprised and it's been that way for at least the last 30 years.

I received a quote yesterday for $1698 out the door, $1349 for the main unit and $349 for the laser diffuser. And that is from an installer in San Francisco. Could be cheaper outside the city limits.

Sounds like a good deal. Everyone in the DC area is floating around $2k.

So if you have the laser diffuser and get pulled over is there any way an officer is able to tell you have it if they don't know what to look for? Better yet is there a way to tell you have it based upon what it does to their laser gun? If they are illegal I imagine that allows the judge to open a fairly large can of "woop ***" on you at sentencing?

I paid $2600 for the K40 with front/rear radar receivers and front/rear laser difusers. I have the Lidatek laser difusers and because I do not have a front plate the receiver is nearly impossible to see unless you literally get down below bumper level and look at the black facing above the spoiler. The Lidatek receiver unit is incredibly small (1.75" X 1/2") dark in color, and nearly flush mounted making it very difficult to even see. The rear is tucked into space on top of the rear plate and although not as stealth as the front it's hardly noticable and could be passed off as a radar detector receiver. The price was within $200 at each of the 3 local dealers which is probably slightly higher then what a local specialty shop might charge. I didn't have the time to take my new car to another installer and wanted my car complete when i drove home from the dealership. I will try to post photos of the front and rear receivers. As far as having the laser difuser installed seperately from a radar unit I do not see why not as it has it's own speaker and lights.

I just purchased an '03 996tt with the K40 and Bluetooth system. The car is being shipped from TX to MD and should get here in a week or so. I am wondering where you guys have your "unit" stored in your car and where your on and off buttons are. The former owner of the car I bought has it stored underneath the CD storage compartments in the tray area where most people put their sunglasses, wallet, etc. They have made a face cover to hide the stuff in there. I don't particularly care for the setup but after reading up on the K40 it sounds like a nice thing to have.
Last question, what does the Bluetooth do in relation to the K40?
Sorry for my ignorance on this stuff but it is all new to me and the car already has it.

Don't leave home without one. I use a Blinder M20 with 2 emitters on the front. Saved me several times now. What is the best part?
Peace of mind. Can concentrate on driving safely instead of staring at my speedo or watching for the speed trap.

I have the blinder m40. It has worked as advertised. I would suggest getting a jammer module mounted in the rear. It doesnt happen very often but the police can hit you with laser in the rear, after you've passed the trap.

The bluetooth k40 is controlled by a remote thats smaller than a credit card. The sensors are always connecting with the interior network module and when it receives a radar signal an led will let up. Attached to the interior network module is also a speaker. The speaker will alert you direction and what band of radar if you want or it can just alert you with a certain tone for x k ka and laser. Hope this helps if you have any other quesitons feel free to ask.

The "units" are hidden under the bumper. The system turns itself on with the ignition although you can also manually turn it on or off with the remote (provided the ignition is on). There's really nothing (for you) to hide. The remote is tiny ands can fit anywhere. Two LEDs on the dash is all you will typically see.
