Help! Putting a 997s engine in a 996 C2. Getting conflicting advice.
I've been told for hard track driving I need a third radiator; and an extension for extra oil to prevent oil starvation on fast turns. My 996 engine needed both, but I've also been told that I only need the third radiator; and I've been told I don't need any add on parts. Anyone out there know? doc2s on the racing forum said he's doing fine, but he's recent to the advanced group. His instructor also is doing fine. For me it took a while for the problems to show up as I got considerably faster with the 996 engine. (It destroyed itself due to a coolant leak, so unrelated to my present questions). Thanks for any help.

Sorry if my question is confusing. For hot weather, hard and fast track use, does the 997s engine need: 1. an auxiliary front radiator. 2. A Brey Krase extension unit to hold extra oil. 3. Any other device to prevent engine failure under "severe" conditions, ie. fast G force turns, and hot weather. Hope that makes more sense.

Yes you will need a third radiator, especially for hard track use, I saw a consistent temp drop on my 3.4. I can't see how it couldn't help a big 3.8 engine.
I don't think the deeper sump will hurt, but the oil scavenging kit from the X51 kit would be a better solution. But I'm not sure if an S motor doesn't already have it? Anyone know?

The X51 kit is a upgrade from the standard S motor.. I am running a third radiator, but thats only because I have tiptronic.
My suggestions:
1. Add a third radiator.
2. Get a X51 engine (or kit)... that will boost hp and add to track reliability.

if you have to get a motor and the cost isn't too prohibitive, why not a GT3 motor from a 996? true dry sump for one would make that a first choice for me.

I already have a 997s motor from Porsche that I hope will begin to be be installed next week,( wiring and CEU will have to be sorted out too). I'd rather not spend the thousands extra for a whole X51 kit unless there's truly no other way to increase longevity. So I'm looking to figure out what I need to aid the 997s.

A 3rd radiator can never hurt...
I can say this, running my 'S' at Willow in the desert of CA in the summer, as well as driving the cars at PDE in the summer heat (100°+), water temps never increased beyond the normal mark.
I have seen oil temps rise to 250° under hard running with high ambient temps.
FWIW the 997 redesign has an improved radiator core an well as intake and exhaust channels...improved cooling efficiency of approx 10%.
Have fun and good luck
