hey texas, I have a proposal for you. Why don't we have a poll on the 993 forum. Two choices. One, I am banned for good. Two, you are banned for good. I will abide by the decision of my fellow rennlisters either way. Judging by your behavior, this is the only thing that will make you happy.

Why get banned? This is the type of mentality you have. Absolutism. Nothing in life is an absolute. Its not a series of yes or no's. That's why its so frustrating to try and have a debate with you. You think only your views are correct. The only person that wants me to leave was you. Is that your outlook on life, just run and hide? I've never said you should be banned, just made fun of.

Is it nice to have the newest machine Porsche offers, you bet. Because someone owns -old- Porsches isnt indicative of their funding limits.
Is it true each new 911 performs better than the one it replaced, you bet. It damned well better!
Is all-out performace the only reason we select such sports cars -maybe for some, but, I am sure lap time alone isnt the sole reason we choose which car to covet. Style, comfort, quality, personality are other reasons that factor in our decision making process.
The 993 is the first sports car that I have owned two of the same model. To me, all of the above attributes are taken into account and is why I very much prefer the 993 series.
Do we really need to argue over which 911 is better -- heck no, but dicsussing it is what forums and clubs are all about.

Interestingly, we are only two days from Christmas, and this post is the most active one on the board today. This entire post could be much more productive if the focus is on the strengths of the 993 or the 997, as opposed to why one is better than the other. I have a 964 that I keep at my vacation home, and I have a 997 in NY, where I spend most of my time. I finally got to drive the 964, and recalled the reasons why I keep it -- the raw, loud engine that takes you back a few years, before the refinement of newer cars. I appreciate the classic lines that defined the 911 for what it is. Having said that, I know that when I return to NY, I will appreciate the newer, refined lines, all of which are based on the older Porsches. When I'm driving, I look forward to finding another Porsche on the road, whether it is a 964, 993, 996 or a 997, and will make every effort to follow it, just to be able to look at it a bit longer. These are all great cars with their own strengths. I don't see the point of debating which is better. If you purchased one over the other, that is a statement in of itself, and there is no reason to trash another model. I suppose if you find a need to do so, it may be a statement in of itself -- that you may be questioning the choice you made.

As for option #3...? Yep - I can do that, too. Your folks' choice...
(WTH is it about the Holiday Season that makes folks just "silly"? Maybe it's the lack of sunlight. I have NO IDEA...)
Best to all for a wonderful Holiday Season!
