There is no doubt that the 997 is a better perfomer than the stock 993, but it is nowhere near the true sports car that the 993 is. The 993 is a driver's car whereas the 997 can be driven successfully by even the most novice of drivers. Your success at getting a 997 around a track does not mean you can get a 993 around the same track with the same skill level.

Can I still share your popcorns?

I've had over the years (or access to them). A 69 911S, 993, 996 and now a 997. My favorite car, the 911S, There was absolutely nothing like it in the day. It couldn't out run the muscle cars but could run circles around them.

I loved the 993 because it was like the old 911's in so many ways. The 996 really didn't do anything for me. The 997 is the ultimate road trip machine. Just a touch of a Mercedes is there on a long straight interstate and I really like that.

Whoa there, Tex. ... Hold your horses.

Are you forgetting that it was YOU who had made the bed here by starting this thread with an underhanded, out of context, out of forum quote from p-car for no apparent reason other than to garner support for your position from fellow 997 owners and to thus gang up on and ambush Mr. P-car in this forum?

This whole thing sounds so school yard like that it's actually laughable. So why not dust yourself out of that sandbox and give your brother, p-car, a big hug......as it is the day before Christmas Eve and we should all be respectful toward each other as the gentlemen that we claim to be.

OCBen, you don't hang out in the 993 board, I do, and am so sick of pcars constant bashing of the 997. He always claims that he's just voicing his opinion, but when someone offers a differing opinion, he goes all crazy and starts with personal attacks. Narrow minded. Plus most of the time, his degrading of the 997 is based on faulty facts. As an owner of a 993, should I just sit back and not offer my views?

Try and have a civilized discussion with pcar regarding the merits of new Porsches. He'll quickly call you a moron, retard, half wit, yuppie wannabe status seeker. Its fun. I highly recommend it.

I've owned the 964, 993, and now the 997... here is my take on the subject:

964- Good!
993- Excellent!
997- Outstanding!

No regrets selling the 964 or 993... I am a very happy with my purchase of the 997!

I've had a 993 C4 and now a 997 C4S. The 993 was a fantastic car and was great fun to drive. It was a bit more "squirrely" or "nervous" than the 993, but it held the road exceedingly well. There is a section of Soldiers Field Road, going around the curve where the Harvard fields are, that I used to go around at 60+ mi. per hr. Never a slip. Exiting the turnpike was also a joy at high speeds - even when wet. However, the windshield always rattled (yes, I used lubricant...that worked for a while) and my wife claimed the car was not safe (bs). The passenger footwell was tight due to the placement of the awd components. But it was a rock solid car that was fabulous to drive. Interestingly, the 997 is not as stable around the same bend on Soldiers Field Road, or around the Mass Pike exits. But it is also a great deal of fun to drive and is more comfortable on longer trips. The passenger compartment is more spacious. And I can drive the kids around because of the perceived greater degree of modern safety features. So I drove it more this summer than I would drive the 993 in three summers. I expected not to love it as much as the 993, but I do. I never liked the 996., although i test drove it a few times.

how does one truly compare a 993 and a 997....its really like apples and oranges...yes ..both are 911s..but are totally different..because one is faster than the other doesnt make it better..because one is better built than the other doesnt make it better...newer is not always better..i personally would like both..But if i had to have just one,i would get a 993..the 993 will satisfy MY soul more than the 997...no disrepect to the 997(a great car)..but I like the 993 more...i actually like the 3.2 more than the 993..numbers are just that,numbers...a great driver will kick my butt in any car..so for me,its feel and soul..on that note..in 10 years i will have a 998 or 999..happy holidays.j
