Exclamation watch out in nj

nj state troopers are conducting an "aggressive driver" sweep this weekend. there are extra patrols on all major highways, so keep it down. I was stopped this morning on 287n just south of exit 52. luckily my brother is "on the job" as they say, and i escaped without any ticket. clocked at 92...oophs. the trooper was a nice guy, and had a great hiding spot. along this section of road there are high walls with an occasional opening. he was inside one of these openings and hit me with k band from the rear after i had passed. when my v-1 went to full strength rear in a spot where i know there are no stray signals i knew i was cooked. hitting cars from behind as they move away is a good technic for these guys because it greatly reduces other drivers further back down the road from picking up a signal as they clock cars ahead.

Teaches us all not to rely too heavily on Radar Detectors and keep it reasonable on public roads...

Why did your V1 not pick it up? I'm trying to understand the performance of these detectors. I just bought the Bluetooth K40/calibre sys tem but still have to install. I'm a Systems Design Engineer and this stuff is right up my alley, maybe during the winter I'll make one at work...... hmmmmmm...I work at Honeywell/Raytheon researching/developing Missile/rocket guidance right now.

G-O F-O-R I-T!!!!! Some stiff competition for V-1 and Escort would be a welcome change......especially from the RIPOFF prices!!!

I'll tell ya, it's scary out there sometimes. I have the K40 system and I can't tell you the number of times that I've driven past a state trooper parked on the side of the road and the detector doesn't even go off. That's because he has nothing ON. He's waiting for someone to pass him at speed and then hit you with radar. My recommendation is to drive carefully. I do have to say that the K40 has been very good in picking up laser, its just that laser isn't used as frequently as the "K" band.

I don't need no stinking radar. My buddy is an ex-cop. The troopers usually leave us alone when they see him riding along with me down the turnpike

Exactly. If he doesn't emit, you won't see him. A lot of troopers use Ka Band Pop mode; even though the manufacturer states that Pop mode readings are not accurate - how many drivers know that and can challenge the reading?

I got pop-moded in my village last weekend; son and I were doing about 75 on a 4-lane country highway with a posted speed of 50... I saw him come over the hill about a mile ahead of me, but it didn't register until the V1 went nuts...

I was on the brakes, hard, in less than a second - and removed my foot from the pedal at 45. I saw him make a u-turn behind me, and come flying up along side. I told my son to get out the registration and insurance card, bc I knew that we were dead meat.

When he got next to me, he looked over, smiled, gave us a thumbs-up, and shot ahead - where he pulled over a Chevy Lumina that was clearly traveling at least 65. Of course, I knew the officer (very casually, though) - but I'm sure that, if I had not braked, he would have nailed me for 75 in a 50.

A radar warning receiver cannot receive radar that's not on. That's a fact. <g>

I was on 287 today as well and noticed a lot of marked and unmarked troopers. I was actually hit with laser for the first time on that highway. The laser shifter worked well, but, man, the sound of the laser detector is like a loud alarm clock going off in the middle of the night.

287 in NJ is a pretty good road. 92 sounds reasonable to me...depending on what the traffic conditions were.

I was on 287 & 80 yesterday for short periods of time, but fortunately didn't meet any of the state troopers.

I have the K40 and have been pleased with its performance. However, no radar detector is a license to speed. It provides an increased level of situational awareness which should be used to assist in avoiding being the "lone" car hit with radar.

For example, I tend to never be the "lead" car on an interstate. I try to keep other cars positioned such that when the K40 detects radar/laser I can slow down beside another car, or quickly fall in behind a car. On lower volume single lane roads its much more difficult.

That said I haven't been stopped in more than 10 years, but am constantely preparing for the potential.

287, and even worse, Route 23 up to Sussex County, are notorious for over-eager cops. they have nothing better to do than nab speeders. careful out there. i got pulled over once for doing 35 in a 30, but the trooper let me go after seeing my spotless record and realizing how absurd he was being..
